Patrick Healy felt completely at ease disparaging the integrity of a former colleague when she went public with experiences of anti-trans bias. But suggest that NYT should tell the truth about Trump's falsehoods and he gets the vapors over the possibility someone might imagine bias had occurred.

The nyt's @patrickhealynyt.bsky.social told Mark Jacob the paper is hesitant to call Trump a liar. Huh. When I criticized the nyt's coverage of trans ppl in an interview, Healy showed no reservation in blasting out a press release saying my criticism “invoked wholly invented conspiracy theories”

Readers can assess whether the nyt is serving the public interest in how it shapes its coverage. It seems like its judgment depends on whether you from are a vulnerable minority, or are POTUS, whose actions are threatening US democracy and global stability.

Rupar’s post was so unnecessary and seemingly out of the blue. It was clearly a dog whistle. Democrats can win by standing up for minority groups, from Somalis in MN to trans ppl in KA. Civil rights for minority groups isn’t “purity politics,” it’s a core principle.

Add another Democratic candidate who has taken an anti-trans stance this campaign. Virtually everyone missed this one. Adam Hamilton's US senate campaign in Kansas called transgender girls "boys," opposed athletics, and was in favor of a surgery ban. Haven't seen this one reported anywhere yet.

$Democratic response is fractured Although the Republican attacks are unified, Democrats’ responses are not. Some candidates have publicly distanced themselves from Republicans’ most extreme accusations. Turek in Iowa and Talarico in Texas both said they oppose gender affirming surgeries for minors, without arguing for a broad ban on medical treatment. Tyson Brody, a spokesperson for Hamilton’s campaign in Kansas, said Hamilton does not think girls should “compete against boys” in sports and that gender affirming surgeries shouldn’t be performed on children.$
