It's always a good feeling to start my day upgrading and replacing a level 3 vendor record in OCLC. Cheers to all of you who upgrade instead of making local edits or creating a duplicate record!

As systems continue to be indiscriminately dismantled in order to serve fascism, it's more important than ever to ensure you really know what's going on and how to help. This is the best 'follow all' I've ever clicked. Listen to your #altgov experts. go.bsky.app/FLUwv5d

A bunch of catalogers on the PCC list not understanding the inherent conservatism of LC administration. Sure, they technically *could* interpret a rule in a way which would go against an executive order, but they're definitely not going to. Don't look to LC for courage, library friends. #critcat 📚

Just solved my first big mystery in my new job: a snippet of frontmatter from another title was included in the verso of two books unrelated, per publisher. I had forgotten how much I enjoy solving #cataloging mysteries. Nobody is getting a 240 today!

It's one thing to take down pages talking about diversity in science. It's another thing entirely to take down research databases that are used for observational studies. That is exactly what it seems just happened at the CDC. www.statnews.com/2025/01/31/c... www.statnews.com/2025/01/31/c...

From a journalist friend: Just spreading the word. The CDC is purging data, so people should archive their favorite CDC datasets today, namely ones around race/ethnic diversity, LGBTQ, and reproductive health. Also health data involving climate. The youth risk behavior survey has already gone down.

This. The fight over books isn't about books. It's a fight over queer folks, trans folks, folks of color, disabled folks, and every other marginalized group whose lives are truly at stake. Books are one of many tools through which these people are being attacked.

SHARE WIDELY. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights. You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one. (1/3)

These are very good suggestions, but a few key ones are missing: attend library board mtgs and speak in favor (many are on zoom), donate $, and vote for measures and bonds to increase funding. Patrons have real power. Don't let a handful of bigots destroy your library.
