Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Malicious compliance is the only dignified response to this, short of quitting. Artists and coders know what to do, let them do what they know. They might even use AI when the situation calls for it. It’s the top-down directive that’s objectionable. 110
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 12/10/2026An interruption in consciousness like any other. You just don’t remember. Unless you do. Or maybe it was just a dream. 120
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I’m asking because when you’re making stuff for other people, it’s important not to piss them off in the process. I don’t see a disadvantage using AI this way, and prefer local LLMs but again I’m also not here to argue or defend it. If a bunch of people here tell me to stop then I will stop. 000
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I want to know if this is unacceptable. To me, used in this way, it’s not much different from Bing or Google AI that can’t be turned off anyway. I could limit myself to Duck Duck Go with the AI off, or try out that commercial no-AI search engine (forgot the name) depending on your responses. 110
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 21/09/2026but as a techy I chose to experiment with it as a “search engine.” I ran DeepSeek locally and used it (along with real search engine results because DS 32b on my system is slow) to help write some batch files to backup my hard drives and user directories. (I’m not here to defend this, bare with me) 110
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I’ve slowly been picking up programming again. Last time I did it seriously LLM AI wasn’t a public thing yet. I’m uncomfortable with it in the IDE and I don’t like the idea of having it complete work for me (“vibe coding” they call it), and I have too much pride to use it in art, 130
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 04/09/2026No! But I’d probably be resurrected as an animal, which is nice. 001

Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Modern racists can be racist without realizing it. They’ll get defensive and it might hurt your relationship but it needs to be done. They need to be put on the spot when they do it. 000
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 22/08/2026And if you’re a minority, and considered someone’s “<blank> friend”, or if they ever call you “one of the good ones” you’ll have plenty of opportunities to speak up against their racism too. The burden is not just on white allies. 100
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Yeah, there’s a social cost to speaking up when it matters, but a personal cost for not. And the result of that is probably scenes like this. Whether they’re scared or insincere, they aren’t doing what matters. Their sin is really the sin of inaction when it counts. 100
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Aside from history, which I believe shouldn’t factor on the individual level, their insecurity might be born from standing idle while family friends (and coworkers) say and do racist things right in front of them. 110
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Thats my problem with it anyway… What’s helpful though would be confronting present day racism directly, as it happens, particularly in their own circles… and I have no doubt that’s hard. 100
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 22/08/2026I may have taken the “original sin” bit the wrong way. We agree that the problem with the statements of the girls in the clip is that they are easy to make and only serve to make themselves feel better.counts.ht 110
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 22/08/2026(Groups being short for ethic groups. There’s only one race, and we’re all in it.) 000
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 22/08/2026A crude statement like that could be misinterpreted and would be easy to take issue with. What I said - what I believe - is that out of all peoples, the Irish have the most in common with us. I also said within groups we have people capable of perpetuating that same kind of suffering. 100
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 22/08/2026IMO the correct answer is the Irish... but we shouldn’t make a contest out of generational trauma. Everyone has ancestors who were colonized and treated as less-than. Every group has people capable of perpetrating it too. 110
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 22/08/2026It’s too much to ask individuals to stand responsible for the moral crimes of their ancestors. It might be why some of them act weird in the first place. 110
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 20/08/2026There will always be assholes looking to tear you down the second you make something great, especially if they consider you to be weird. The prospect of being accused of AI use is discomforting, but it's also just more of the same. 000
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 17/08/2026I imagine 30+ minutes of aerobic exercise should stave off further damage, but I am not a doctor. If you’re trying to gain weight you’ll probably want to exercise harder than your first guess. 110
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 17/08/2026My right one is slightly enlarged “upper normal”, but they said it’s fine w/ “normal systolic function”. The left one is more important, apparently. Internet says the left receives oxygen from the lungs, the right de-oxygenated blood from the body (so both are important really). 110

Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 11/08/2026Borg version (sorry): “We are we, we have always been we, even before collective consciousness. All life is one, only the veil of flesh and bone holds the universe back from the grand realization.” 000
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 06/08/2026Since it’s not our fixation we can use things like that to imagine what other people might see. 110
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 06/08/2026I try to imagine it from outside. Think of a person fixated on long beards. It’s all he looks at. His computer & phone are chock full of beard pics, which he hides because he doesn’t want anybody to know he’s fixated on them. He tries to grow one but it takes forever and looks unkempt. People stare. 110
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 06/08/2026Sure, but I also imagine overcoming some things. I’m not fit right now. I’ve never been fit, only thin (until a couple years ago) Wouldn’t it be funny if I were to get really fat but also healthier? Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 06/08/2026We are nominally free, but given obstacles to help prevent us from achieving our fullest potential. The system as it is needs surfs of their own supposed making. People aren’t tied to land but their districts are underfunded. They will be local unskilled labor and they will blame themselves. 100
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 06/08/2026Activist, social organizer, liberal, are all pejoratives here. Instead, your freedom is meant to be found in robbing others of it. Lording over people while you are yourself lorded over. The only ones losing out completely are on the bottom, and you are supposed to hate them anyway. 100
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 06/08/2026Ex: you can discuss incomes with coworkers and start a union - that is a protected right. But you will get constructively dismissed and blackballed out of your industry if you do. People will look down on you and call you a trouble maker. The law won’t protect you fully, even if you have money. 100
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 06/08/2026If allowed to reach its ultimate conclusion, conservatism recreates monarchy and feudalism. 100
Torvus @bigtorvus.bsky.social · 06/08/2026How it serves: via ignorance coupled with contrarianism they can feel like the smartest person in the room. If they’re male, they also feel more like a man because it’s a hard-hearted, edgy way of thinking. It’s only when they own something that they can truely profit, and that’s not a guarantee. 100
