Gene Day's Black Zeppelin #2 (Renegade). The story from the cover was pretty wild and, unsurprisingly (given the design of the... ahem... alien head), very erotic. Lots of phallic-shape things. My favorite story was "Slaughter House Passing," though. #comicsky #renegadepress #geneday

Concrete: Stars Over Sand #4 (Dark Horse). Heart was racing for the first half. Very curious how this - and the Concrete series? - will end next issue. I laughed out loud when Ron is looking over the books he wrote; one is just titled "Pushing Things." #comicsky @paulchadwick.bsky.social #concrete

Keith Laumer's Retief #6 (Mad Dog Graphics). Had no idea what this was, but had to grab it because of the impeccable duo that is Dennis Fujitake and Jan Strnad. It was great! A goofy sci-fi adventure with the always excellent Fujitake art. #comicsky #dennisfujitake #janstrnad

Gene Day's Black Zeppelin #1 (Renegade). I particularly enjoyed "Priest" by Charles Vess. Surprised to find a Dave Sim story in here, or how Deni felt about Gene including it. This cover is just incredible. And that logo? Goddamn. #comicsky #renegadepress #geneday #charlesvess

The Zone Continuum #1 (Caliber). I remember seeing an ad for this in the back of another book and was enamored with the art style. This did not disappoint. It definitely drops you in medias res with lots of jargon, but the general story was easy to grasp. #comicsky #caliberpress #calibercomics

The Forged #10 (Image). I'm a few months late to picking this back up, but after a two year gap since #9, I had lost the momentum. Happy to report I am way back into this. The world and style of this book is just electric and the story continues to expand. #comicsky #theforged #imagecomics

Armageddon Patrol: Cherries #1 (Alchemy Texts). As excellent as this cover is, I can't get over how poorly rendered most of the faces are inside. There's some charm to how bad they are, but it's limited. They include a letter from Dave Sim who, unsurprisingly, doesn't like the female lead. #comicsky

Even with my criticism of the 2 volumes I've read so far, I'm still game for the 3rd, so that tells you something. I just can't quite put my finger on why I am interested in this. But yeah, it's probably just the overall atmosphere. Either way, it is good!

Strangehaven Vol. 2 TPB: Brotherhood (Abiogenesis). I'm not sure what is engaging to me about this series, but I need to see it through, even if the plot is paper thin and the realism illustrations are, frankly, ugly, stilted, and really crank up the melodrama and ham. #comicsky
