Thank you to @animalartcrimes.bsky.social for making this very sweet tribute to Cyp in the EF conbook! Made my day.
Photo of the Animal Art Crimes Eurofurrence GoH spread. Text of the cyp tribute:

BARKS, DOGDAYS, CYORESS, whatever you may know him as, is one of tge most influential furry graffiti furs to roam these lands. Fruends, family, crew, creator, adventurer, and everythung un between. A prominent member of the furry scene and graffiti realm. Cypress was one of the most innovative people in these spaces, killing it in the streets, at the convention, and in the studio. Gaining recgnition for his time un the streets of Baltimore catching some of the craziest pieces in the craziest spots. WE'RE FOREVER LIVING! BARKS FOREVER!

I really love whenever Sean Tatol writes about SoiL Thornton. Cus i agree with pretty much everything Sean says here but this show also sounds like the coolest shit in the world. Yes!!! Piles of lavender that make you ill!! Yes!!!!!

SoiL Thornton - Metabolizing eviction try, work_mp3 and other games of topping - Swiss Institute - *
I was curious if SoiL was going to try harder for an institutional show, and I need not have wondered. The show consists of a video that splices together slowed-down clips of artists' talks where the artist says the word "work" (there are 79 clips, which is how many times the word is said in the Rihanna song of the same name); an amount of dried lavender equivalent to the curator's body weight (when the show opened it was spread over the floor, but it had all been bagged up with a note saying the smell was making the gallery attendants feel sick); a frame with an old dish towel and documents detailing how the artist diverted part of the production budget towards paying their court-ordered back rent; the artist's bed and frame disassembled in two parts and put inside of a big transparent inflatable thing; a two-channel video of a slowed-down colonoscopy instructional video, one of the videos overlaid with the artist scrolling through the transaction history of their bank account; and, across from those videos, quoting the press release: "The opposite wall has been painted chroma-key green, a placeholder for the possibility of a different world." And who says utopia is dead? Now I'm not one to demand that artists should be calculating market rationalists, but, if the content of your art is telling the world you spent an institution's money to help pay off the $47k you owed your landlord, you start begging a very pertinent question that I'd usually never ask: "Should this artist be receiving money for their art?"Pic of the initial swiss instite install of the show sith the lavender on the ground.Pic of the lavender bagged because it was making people sick.

He described himself as a “peculiar type of homosexual.” In his small town life he
understood himself to be “the peculiar one,” and moving to Houston and involving
himself in its larger arts community, even mounting a solo show at the Contemporary
Arts Association in 1962, proved no better. In his perception, he describes himself as “too
butch or rough” for the other gays he found. Still, he was clearly getting laid at points, as
he complains about dry periods when sex was not possible. In a letter to straight friends,
he states matter-of-factly, “I do not think I can repress the sexual urge. The alternative is
to blow my brains out and I am not in the mood for this.”
During the war, he made a move on a fellow recruit when drunk and the man tried to kill
him, cracking his scull and putting him into a coma. After that he started having visions
in his sleep, and he would note the symbols he saw and when awake he would paint
them. He became convinced that these symbols were being revealed to him not invented
by him and would endeavor to paint them as directly as possible. The result was a type
of unartful paint handling that remains inspiring to a diverse group of art makers. Today,
It’s Bess’s visionary paintings that museums and galleries clamor to show or own. In a
provocative statement, he stated in a letter to Parsons he never considered himself an
artist but mere a conduit inspired by “the evil Of Dionysus.”
Bess’s lifelong investigation into masculine and feminine archetypes of particular world
cultures led him to the study of male initiation ceremonies. As his obsession mounted,
he endeavored to perform a surgery on his own genitals known as a ‘sub-incision’ with
only booze for anesthesia. He created an opening at the indentation under the root of
his penis, above the testicles. Bess considered this as a vestigial vagina and other
studies convinced him if he could receive semen in the newly opened orifice, the aging

Furpile is a please touch plushie sculpture show running May 23rd through July 12th 2026 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

Patrick Totally asked several hundred sculptors, knitters, quilters, painters, illustrators, NPOs, drag performers, fursuit makers, tattooers, designers, locals, public figures, computer freaks, and "non-artists" to create a soft sculpture adhering to a certain set of parameters. Furpile is a show of work by the seventy-or-so artists who submitted work based on this prompt.

Furpile is an arts depreciation initiative. It is not enough to make cheap art. The bespoke stuff also needs to be much, much cheaper. We are still afraid to touch art. We are scared to use it after we buy it, like how we would anything else.

At the end of its run, the sculptures comprising Furpile will be donated to various thrift stores…

yeah dude. Mellon Square's the Rockefeller Center of the midwest dude. people flock to Pittsburgh to see the underground parking garage you chiseled into the middle of the downtown traffic grid. i <3 driving through the Google Paramilitary Zone to get to the trader joes.
Q: You mentioned in a previous interview that you don’t want Pittsburgh’s pitch to focus on its past. But the city’s past still affects its built and natural environments. How is Pittsburgh trying to kind of remedy those things?

Mayor O’Connor: You don’t run away from your history. You embrace it, but you use that history to then forge a new one. When you’re talking about the steel industry when it was here, you built all the steel basically for World War II, and that’s our history. But now it’s building robots and AI and other things that are saving lives across the country. Embrace the history and why it was built. I always bring up Mellon Square as an example. That was actually built to replicate Rockefeller Center.
