Besides the point, but also, his analysis of Hotline Miami 2 showed he's not very media literate.

I'm gonna go on the record and say I only watched a couple of Jacob Geller video essays a couple of years ago. I felt like they were wandering around a point that never quite landed and I wasn't tempted to watch any more of his work after.

Draftkings and the prediction markets are the great feminist equalizer. Gen Z men are all losing 30% of their income gambling, so they end up having the same wealth as their female peers.

The same thing happened to Coffee Break. He made a side channel for less scripted work called Coffeezilla, and that became what people knew him. The original channel gradually got abandoned.

‘Say yes and never do it’ Mel Brooks knew how to deal with the studios
You have some wonderful stories of basically getting away with stuff at the studios.

I’d learned one very simple trick: say yes. Simply say yes. Like Joseph E. Levine, on “The Producers,” said, “The curly-haired guy—he’s funny looking. Fire him.” He wanted me to fire Gene Wilder. And I said, “Yes, he’s gone. I’m firing him.” I never did. But he forgot. After the screening of “Blazing Saddles,” the head of Warner Bros. threw me into the manager’s office, gave me a legal pad and a pencil, and gave me maybe twenty notes. He would have changed “Blazing Saddles” from a daring, funny, crazy picture to a stultified, dull, dusty old Western. He said, “No farting.” I said, “It’s out.”That’s probably the most famous scene in the movie, the campfire scene.

I know. He said, “You can’t punch a horse.” I said, “You’ll never see it again.” I kept saying, “You’re absolutely right. It’s out!” Then, when he left, I crumpled up all his notes, and I tossed it in the wastepaper basket. And John Calley, who was running [production at] Warner Bros. at the time, said, “Good filing.” That was the end of it. You say yes, and you never do it.

That’s great advice for life.

It is. Don’t fight them. Don’t waste your time struggling with them and trying to make sense to them. They’ll never understand.

For dentures specifically it is worth mentioning that printing is usually only done for a temporary prosthesis to be used while CDT starts work on a traditional prosthesis with proper realistic shading. Monolithic printed dentures lack the aesthetics of real human teeth and gingiva.

Many dentists do indeed have in-house dental labs where appliances are made by Certified Dental Technicians, and over the past decade resin 3D printers have been incorporated into those labs. But most practices prefer to farm out this work to larger dental labs that already have a consistent record.

You have to use the exact same model of printer, the exact same solvent, wash for the same amount of time, and use the same post cure time, UV intensity and curing unit heat.

Furthermore, the FDA will only give approval for a resin use in making an appliance if you use the exact protocol laid out by the manufacturer in the safety demonstration. Deviation from protocol would result in a product not demonstrated safe for patient use, posing risks for patient+malpractice.

This process requires rigorous testing and cleaner manufacturing conditions than are normally used for producing resins, to guarantee the material is free of contaminants. This makes the resins costlier to produce than other non-patient safe resins.

Big Jilm @bigjilm.bsky.social · 22/06/2026
For dental APPLIANCES, as in something a dentist designs and delivers to a patient, only resins approved for that purpose by the FDA can be used. The manufacturer of the resin has to go through a process of demonstrating that the final cured product is safe for use in direct patient care.

FDM is unsuitable for anything dental related, except perhaps for making some fixtures for holding tools in the laboratory. SLA has the higher resolution and lower porosity to be able to print dental models for treatment planning, and it is the tech most commonly used in dentistry.

Cosmic horror is great because it just kinda invents itself. Spend a bit too long thinking about the sun and you realize it’s a radioactive death ball larger than your mind has capacity to comprehend, so inherently dangerous that looking directly at it will harm you, and it’s just sitting there.

It really cannot be overstated that COVID happened, suddenly a bunch of absentee tech dads were forced to stay home where they saw their kids playing Animal Crossing while talking on Discord, then collectively decided to light a trillion dollars on fire to make Snow Crash IRL.

I had the same thoughts reading this years ago. The blog post was too short and needed more meat, but the book was too long and too meandering. I roll my eyes when there's a whole chapter devoted to clarifying terminology and methods, especially if there's no rigorous data.

The literature discussion was interesting. For additional fiction discourse related to this, I recommend The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin. To oversimplify, it is about a man traveling to a world entirely populated by NB's, and observing the ways their culture differs from ours.

And the AI summaries never cover the full email content. All of the info sent is info they need. If there was stuff that could be trimmed out, she would have sent a shorter email.

They then get AI to write a reply to the "summary" that they assume is accurate and complete, and send it without really reading the email they are sending. So they barely register the information, and when she contacts them to follow up on the contents, they don't even remember what they agreed to.

I know someone whose job includes emailing managers and VPs with instructions on how to do things or reminders to do things by a certain date. It's become obvious recently that many of them are not reading their emails, instead just getting AI summaries of them.

The thing that bugged me the most though, there's at least two instances where Harari asserts something, then immediately names an example of why this isn't true, and follows with "but this is the exception that proves the rule." He doesn't understand the purpose of this phrase and misuses it.
