In this age of over the top Halloween displays, this is how my wife decorates for the season. Compared to our neighbors with hundreds of dollars worth of stuff on their front lawns, this doesn’t even qualify as understated. Please excuse the poor framing. I […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

I’ve been laid up with back issues for a few days. Outside my window there’s a row of tall junipers loaded with berries that are being inundated by the local birds, especially American robins. They arrive in large groups and swallow berries for several minutes before coming onto my deck where I […]

@Onlineadviser At my local grocery store I saw an appx. 350 lb woman riding an electric shopping cart loaded with chips and frozen dinners, plus 5 half gallon containers of ice cream a couple of weeks ago. Though I may not know the details of the cause of her condition it’s pretty obvious that […]

One last #Photo of the season because tomorrow morning we’ll be closing up our cabins and heading south for the winter. I happened to catch a glimpse of my granddaughter getting in some last minute fishing before her mom calls her in for the night. Her […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

@travisfw They make excellent tea. Let them dry and grind them up a bit with a mortar and pestle - if you feel like old schooling it. Steep in hot water for 3 to 5 minutes, if you want, sweeten with a little honey.

I had to follow up on the previous pic. Tonight’s sunset was particularly stunning so I had to run out in my bare feet and take the shot before I’d lose it. No filters or editing involved. This is exactly as I saw it IRL pointing a little to the right of the first shot. #Photography

My sister in law came up to the cabin this week to see the fall colors. The weather was mostly cold and windy until today so she was able to get the money shot early this morning when the lake was as smooth as glass.

The tree line from across the lake with the leaves in full color and reflection on the still water in mirror image.

@scribblanitea By the way. I mentioned that you manage a holiday let and she’s wondering if it’s on line where she can peruse. It’s an obsession of hers.

We'll be closing up our cabin for the winter this weekend and heading south for home . Today it was too windy to be outside so indoor chores were the order for the day. The wind died down this evening right around dinner time and I snapped this shot of the […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Spotted at a gas station in far northern Wisconsin, a place where we used to see Trump signs at every other yard and displaying a Harris sign would elicit everything fron angry stares to verbal confrontation.

A gas station pump with the price for regular gas at $4.50 per gallon and a sticker depicting a picture of Trump, pointing at the prices with a caption saying “I did that”.

#SilentSunday #TheNorthWoods #photography Truth be told, I took this photo yesterday morning when I woke up. While making coffee I noticed that the lake was dead still with the sunrise lighting up the island across the way while dark clouds looked in the west.

The island's trees are mirrored perfectly in the still water of the lake. It reminds me of a Bob Ross painting.

We went out again this morning to check on the eagle’s nest on the island across the way. The 2 chicks are now as large as their parents and looking very healthy. They left the nest several weeks ago and probably do some hunting on their own now, but they’ll still hang out in the general area of […]

Assuming the parents survive the round trip, we’ll be seeing them again next spring. The young will establish themselves on nearby lakes to perpetuate the species. And such is life….. (2/2)

This morning we took the boat out for a little putt-putt and saw the little family unit of loons that live on our lake. They had three babies last spring. But, sadly, they lost one to predation shortly after they fledged. The two remaining chicks are now almost as large as their parents and will […]

Another end of a beautiful day in the North Woods. My Sweets and I are having a cocktail by a little campfire. I'm keeping it small so we can go inside before the mosquitos get too bad.

Whose pool this is, I think I know. His house is dark, the yard is dim; He will not see me tarry here While I strip off to take a swim. The water’s warm, and not too deep, But I have promises to keep, And laps to swim before I sleep, And laps to swim before I sleep. #SwimmingPoolASongOrPoem […]
