extremely sad about the dismasting of Pip Hare. She worked so hard to get a sponsor and get into this Vendee with a somewhat competitive boat.. and masts for an IMOCA aren't exactly easy to come by. I wonder if she'll try and pick up a different boat? her current will be 13 years old by the 2028 ed.

I found this also to be true in Spain. In the regional cities (i.e. not Madrid and Barcelona) there are an unbelievable number of little shops that have one employee/owner, selling earrings or hats or plumbing parts or whatever. Adds a lot to the vibrancy of just walking around and seeing the shops.

The Jules Verne trophy-- the only boats that are more ridiculous than the boats in the Vendee Globe. 100 foot long trimarans that fly above the water on foils. two just set out to circumnavigate faster than anyone ever has, and they need to average >30 knots for 40 days (!!) to do it. incredible.
