I updated the home shrine today. Replaced a thangka I should have saved from the fire, and corrected feng shui. I rejoice in this. Even though I know emptiness is the view, pieces of home I recover exert a powerful effect - the suffering of change and attachment. More in alt

Center thangka is the green nöngdro lineage tree with its four main branches rising from the pure blue waters of a lake in the center of a vast green expanse. A field of mostly red robed Kagyü lamas surrounds blue Vajradhara. Red, green and blue meditation deities extend below on the lowest branch. Many details are highlighted in gold leaf. The image is framed by red, yellow and crimson brocade, typical for thangkas. Manjusri in blue and ivory on an ivory lotus throne is on the left with blue and gold brocade. The new Green Tara thangka on the right depicts her in detail too fine to show here. The atelier in Nepal uses traditional mineral colors to create the image of a deep green deity on a pure white lotus throne. I regret not saving the thangka I had on the afternoon of the fire. It was a much simpler image with no brocade but just as powerful.

Drove through the secret tunnel to turn onto the highway. Guy was walking along with a big bag of recycling. He saw me wait, took the cigarette out of his mouth, gave a big smile, cheery wave, genuinely friendly, thanks for the patience. I knew right then it was going to be a good day, and it was.

I met a physicist who worked on green house gases decades ago before it was in the common consciousness. He said fuel was no where near as expensive as it should be given the external costs. Glad to see we’re headed that way.

The charred remains of a two story apartment building with only the concrete shell , retaining wall and brickwork still standing. Gray and tan ashen debris surround it. Blackened palm trees and yucca on the hill side above. We had the lower unit for 31 years.

We have trees at home - yeah, but we think they’re a nuisance and we chop them down at rhe slightest excuse. “Too many pine needles in the gutters.””A kid could fall out.” Sure it’s only one or two trees that get the chipper treatment but it happens hundreds of times a day.
