The US Global Change Research Program's website, including all its sub-domains that host the National Climate Assessments and related reports, is now offline. The 1990 Global Change Research Act (see below) mandates its research findings be available to all federal agencies & departments.

Which US state has the most billion dollar weather and climate disasters? It’s not California and it’s not Florida - it’s Texas. As this article explains, the only state subject to more wildfires than Texas is California. Texas even leads California in acreage burned.

Information about Climate Transition Risk and Bank Lending
<div> Do banks price their borrowers' exposure to climate transition risk? I find that in the E.U., firms negatively exposed to climate transition risk face hi

Bhavyaa Sharma @bhavyaas.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
8/ 📢 What can help: Policies that reduce banks' costs of acquiring firm-level transition risk info (e.g. standardized climate disclosure frameworks & climate stress tests) can support decarbonization financing, even in periods of high financial stress.
120
Bhavyaa Sharma @bhavyaas.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
7/ When the quality of the average borrower is low, the reliance on private info rises, leading to a decline in the interest rate differentials. This weakens the pricing of transition risks and challenges for financing of the green transition by keeping the cost of debt high for greener firms.
120
Bhavyaa Sharma @bhavyaas.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
6/ Specialized banks gain an edge over non-specialized banks through lower costs of information acquisition, helping them price risks better. However, underreaction to public signals can narrow interest rate differentials between more and less exposed firms.
120
Bhavyaa Sharma @bhavyaas.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
5/ Interpreting bank specialization as a source of heterogeneity in costs of private information acquisition, I develop a bank lending model with competitive lending, costly information acquisition, and underreaction to public signals about firms' transition risk to explain the empirical findings.
120
Bhavyaa Sharma @bhavyaas.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
4/ I find that specialized banks, through their industry-specific expertise, can better price regulatory aspects of climate transition risk for EU based firms - but not post oil supply news shocks relevant for energy prices, suggesting underreaction by banks to energy market signals.
120
Bhavyaa Sharma @bhavyaas.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
3/ Recent climate stress tests highlight significant information gaps banks face in assessing their transition risk exposure. These gaps arise from the lack of standardized disclosures and robust frameworks for estimating firms' emission and transition risk management.
120
Bhavyaa Sharma @bhavyaas.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
2/ Risks from the green transition - like regulatory changes or technological shift - add uncertainty for lenders and borrowers. Yet, banks show limited adjustments in lending practices for high-emission sectors.
120
Bhavyaa Sharma @bhavyaas.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
1/ 🌍 The transition to a low-carbon economy, while essential, brings financial uncertainties. Banks play a critical role in financing this green shift. But are they adequately pricing the risks tied to climate transition? I take an information-centric approach to answering this question.
