[SNW spoilers] So, the puppet episode. I admit that I laughed out loud several times during the episode, and a lot of it was fun to watch, but it wasn't really great Star Trek.

Chuck Schumer’s Ridiculous Strategy For Trump’s Illegal War: Hope Republicans Come To Their Senses
I’ve criticized Chuck Schumer plenty over the years, generally for being bad on tech policy, but also for not understanding the moment we’re living through. Yes, he’s the leader of a minority party with zero power, but that doesn’t mean he’s powerless. Yet he acts as if he is. And if he can’t figure that […]

ICE murdered someone yesterday. The thug who did it needs to be prosecuted, and ICE needs to be immediately dismantled. "Abolish ICE" was always the moderate position. Any politician unwilling to do this, regardless of party, needs to GTFO.

It's sort of funny when those who argue most strenuously for a marketplace of ideas where bad ideas are tested and rejected always always always get the most "concerned" when they encounter a place where bad ideas get rejected for being bad. Almost seems like they were lying about what they wanted.

Multiple things can be true at the same time. The ACA was certainly better than nothing, and it helped people get health insurance who previously couldn't. But it was also essentially a conservative-crafted plan that still left many people with inadequate healthcare.

The fascism-laundering NYT is at it again. This piece gushes about the novel idea that conservative Christians are an oppressed minority without once pointing out that they've had outsized influence in American politics for at least four decades.
A bald white man dressed in a suit jacket and shirt (But no tie! Look how hip he is!) sits with his hands folded under his chin and stares off into the distance. He is doing his best to look like a person who has Serious Thoughts. Underneath, a headline reads “He Gave a Name to What Many Christians Feel”, with this synopsis: “And the feeling isn't good. Aaron Renn has gained a following by warning that the U.S. is currently a ‘negative world’ for Christianity.”

If your response to "Biden should have done more to prevent this" is to blame people who didn't vote for Kamala Harris, then what exactly do you think we're electing these people to do? If the Democrats want to be our leaders, it seems like they might want to try leading once in a while.

Mood:
The Second Coming

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

 -W. B. Yeats
