Mangled verbiage... I meant that by eschewing trade with UPL, the Jets have already accrued substantial additional value because they then signed Skinner as a UFA.

Hot take... By eschewing a trade around the draft that would include a goalie like UPL would have likely precluded the Jets signing Skinner, thereby significantly downgrading their goaltending. Even if the trade value now is ostensibly lower the added value of Skinner>UPL mitigates substantially.

I think the Avs outplayed the Jets overall but I'm blase about "deserve-to-win" when the game xG difference is less than 1. If Scheifele hit the net on either of his wide open slot shots we'd remember those saves (or goals) more. Arniel said they logged scoring chances as even over the game fwiw.

I agree, but the Canes are committed to trading Nikishin, so it's really a matter of time and destination. Chevy can afford to stay patient and let the Nikishin trade go through before making the best trade he can.

I sort of think Nikishin is the linchpin, and Hellebuyck won't be traded until that situation is resolved. If nothing else, that would give Chevy a bit more leverage with other GMs that think he lacks options. At some point, the music will stop and a few teams will be left with shaky goaltending.

Maybe Nikishin to the Blues, to get Lawrence or another prospect (Jiricek?) along with a couple of other good assets.

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I still think it'll be Carolina somehow, flipping prospect/picks and maybe a roster player from a Nikishin deal. Tulsky is too calculating to bet a chance at a Cup repeat on Bussi (who's older than both Skinner and Stevenson). NJD, assuming they even care about contending?

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I agree that a top-end prospect would be the best return for Hellebuyck (C or RD). I'm not sure Chevy could get that, but it would be the best for the franchise.

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I agree. I've wondered about trading DeMelo and getting a real upgrade on RD, but I think the whole vibe thing is a constraint.

Pionk has been even more chaotic than usual thus far, and Samberg looks like he's trying to make more happen with the puck. So far, it's led to too many breakdowns. St. Ivany did not inspire confidence. I hope he can play a more steady game.

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
He already started to change up his D pairs, flipping DeMelo and Pionk. But Morrissey-Pionk have never been very good, and they have to try Salomonsson in a top-4 role. DeMelo is far from his peak, and Pionk remains inconsistent.

I think the Jets will lose some games with Skinner that they would have won with Hellebuyck. But they might also win some extra games with Stevenson compared to other back-ups. It's very early, but I wonder if we might see close to a 1a/b tandem. Stevenson looked rock solid.

Meh, I wasn't all that impressed by Namestnikov. He was just a guy on the 5v6, chasing around in his zone.
100
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Scheifele and Connor playing for their own offense on 5v6 is a very bad look. Scheifele's icing was awful. Also, those soft turnovers on zone exits have been a persistent problem, and they've been back to that early this season. Arniel has to nip that right in the bud. Stevenson was outstanding.

Rosen having a very strong game. He's using his speed both ways, and playing smart.

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Iafallo reinforces the fact that he's a keeper among the bottom 9 vet forwards (vs. Nino and Namestnikov).

Perfetti came into the NHL with a reputation for having a good shot with a good release, but hasn't shown it much. That was a laser...

Bjorck with some tough lessons tonight...

That's kind of Pionk's MO, tbh...

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Sloppy game. Jets lack some pop on the back-to-back. Morrissey really struggling to get it going tonight. Lambert really needs to improve his passing. Bjorck lacking some pop tonight. Rosen has been fast and effective at times. Perfetti having another strong game. Stevenson looks really solid.
110
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Might be okay, but I'm fine with Connor-Scheifele-Perfetti. Perfetti is actually quite good defensively, and especially sharp with zone exits. I see Bjorck in a Bergeron mold. Vilardi might not be at the Pastrnak level, and that might be what the Jets need to find via trade or drafting.
100
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Also, Perfetti looks much faster, stronger and more confident on the PP this year. He's getting more puck retrievals and winning puck battles and then making sharp plays to reset the PP.
110
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Jets really need a good PP to offset some lack of scoring depth. I think Bjorck is going to elevate the PP2 unit. PK could be okay too, especially if/when Salomonsson can settle into that role. I think they have some good F setups.

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Well, if we've learned anything about Arniel, it's that he is very, very reluctant to alter the pecking order, and has had a tendency to undermine team performance to maintain some hierarchies.
120
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Fleury would add more chaos to the 3rd D pair with Ferraro. I think St. Ivany is a more steady option at this point. Still, my main concern overall is DeMelo and his continued decline. He's not close to being a solid top-pair RHD at this point. It's going to exact a high toll on Morrissey over time.
110
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Pens play at a very fast pace. It will be a good test for the Jets' faster-paced lineup. Through two games, the Jets' D have shown vulnerabilities in managing pace and pressure, most notably DeMelo and Ferraro.
130
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Well, it's just two games but it seems to me that the Carolina Hurricanes can be pretty sure that they don't have a goalie plan B in the AHL. Just sayin...

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Most Jets had strong games, but DeMelo and Namestnikov really gave the Wings some life with awful plays and two minor penalties each. Namestnikov can't be such a negative on the 4th line. DeMelo needs to be a lot better on the top D pair. Oh, and Ferraro looks very shaky with the puck. Yikes.

I thought Yager and Zhilkin were both very good. Barlow looks like a different player with that extra speed and maybe some confidence. He is going to a fan-favourite.
000
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The most notable difference for the Jets and Moose this season is speed. They have a bunch of burners throughout their lineups this season, especially if they put Koepke into the Jets lineup. The 🫎 are full of burners... Gregor, Wahlin, He, Zhilkin, Burnside, Yager, etc.

There are the Barlow hands we've been waiting for...

I don't know if Barlow will ever be a solid NHLer but he's noticeably faster again this season. He's evidently putting in the work to improve his skating.

Based on last night, the jury is out on Skinner. The Jets aren't good enough to have a soft goal against with any regularity.
000
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Yup. DeMelo and Pionk worry me. The 4th line reminds me of last season... just a step too slow all over the ice. Koepke might give them some jump. Top 6 and Lowry look better than last season. Vilardi and Bjorck could be a really nice dyad, and Perfetti looks good with 81-55. Stuuuu (?)

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Ideally, though it's really hard to imagine a contending team would trade out a core roster player at this point. Maybe a team like STL would swap out a F for Nikishin in a 3-team trade. Otherwise, options will be very limited at this point.

I actually saw some good things from Rosen tonight, particularly in the 1st period. He played less than 11 minutes, so not much to go on for evaluation after the 1st. Still, it's an obvious position that could be upgraded, especially if Perfetti keeps playing well with 81-55.
110
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I was pleasantly surprised by Rosen, but yes, a dynamic winger with Bjorck and Vilardi would be nice. I still expect that line to put up some offense once they get more in sync. It was encouraging to see Perfetti mesh well with Scheifele and Connor.
010
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Jets played with good pace, except the 4th line. I still worry about the Jets right D with DeMelo and Pionk. Pionk is passable on the 2nd pair. DeMelo is struggling on the top pair. I hope Salomonsson can slot into a ln effective top-4 role soon.
110
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Bjorck is the real deal. He really is. Size and strength and speed are not issues now, and he's just 18. He's going to get bigger, faster and stronger, and he's going to figure out how to beat NHL players with great regularity.

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Well, that last several minutes from Pionk was uninspiring.

bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
One season plus one game for Namestnikov and Nino, tbh. So far, assessment is based on 100% of this season.
000
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Lambert is playing a nervous 3rd period. Should improve in these situations with some experience. Scheifele a bit more casual with the puck in his zone than I'd like, but that's an age-old story...
020
bfj-mb.bsky.social @bfj-mb.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Arniel has to move Koepke into that 4th line. Chevy has to find a way to move Nino and/or Namestnikov if they don't show big improvements soon.

That "vet" 4th line of Nino, Namestnikov and Iafallo has been dreadful. Like, awful.
