Bjorck is the real deal. He really is. Size and strength and speed are not issues now, and he's just 18. He's going to get bigger, faster and stronger, and he's going to figure out how to beat NHL players with great regularity.

Well, that last several minutes from Pionk was uninspiring.

Lambert is playing a nervous 3rd period. Should improve in these situations with some experience. Scheifele a bit more casual with the puck in his zone than I'd like, but that's an age-old story...

That "vet" 4th line of Nino, Namestnikov and Iafallo has been dreadful. Like, awful.

Conversely, Lowry is back... Like, really, really back. That is really big. That's in addition to Bjorck already looking better than any of the Jets middle Cs last season could be big.

My goodness, DeMelo is just a shadow of the player he was a few seasons ago. His reads are slow, his puck handling is shaky, and his feet are slower than ever. He's putting himself and his D partners in all sorts of trouble. He really can't be a top pair D on a good team anymore.

So, a rumour that it might come down to: Nikishin-->STL Hellebuyck-->CAR So, what might the Jets get? Consider some reports of a "value" for Nikishin as 2 1sts, and a reported Nikhishin+1st for Hellebuyck. Neighbours+Lawrence+1st (CAR)-->WPG

Dreger hinting that the Jets might need to settle for the best futures package rather than hold out for an impact roster player. That seemed inevitable; why would a contending team want to trade a core roster player? I still think Nikishin might be the linchpin that will unlock a Hellebuyck trade.

Some sentiment that Stanley could have signed with the Jets for more than his new contract. I'm not so sure - I think Chevy had no interest in signing him when he knew his trade value meant that he could get a deal like Rosen and a 2nd in return. It was a good decision, in retrospect.

Jets top 4 D have looked pretty rough at times tonight. Pionk has been unsteady and Samberg hasn't been able to stabilize. Similarly, DeMelo looks pretty slow and Morrissey has ended up getting caught out of position.

If Scheifele and Connor keep making cute, high-risk passes like they have this period, they are going to get slaughtered this season. They are playing pond hockey.

I see hints of more intrigue around a Hellebuyck trade with the Canes, once they solve the Nikishin situation. That isn't a surprise. I can't see a logical, data-driven GM like Tulsky get carried away by the unexpected run that Bussi had last season and bet his Cup repeat on a reprise.

Without knowing the extent of Vladar's injury, it does illustrate the fluidity of the NHL's goalie carousel. Lots of contingencies with limited 1G spots. Regardless, since Hellebuyck will almost certainly be traded to a "contender", expecting impact roster players in return is unrealistic.

Hmmm... Barron was good, Lambert was fast (and energetic), but that line is still looking for chemistry. Fleury might lead the NHL in turnovers from simple passes from behind his net. Yager had a lot of jump and looked like an NHLer. Freij was actually really, really good - sharp puck movement.

Halftime thoughts... Ferraro looks a lot better than any 3LD the Jets used the past couple of seasons. I don't know who would have to sit, but Koepke and Gregor are Tasmanian Devils on the 4th line. DeMelo concerns me. Bjorck is a good player. He just is... Scheifele showing defensive effort.

I keep seeing reports that the Jets are adamant that they don't want futures (picks & prospects) in return for Hellebuyck. That seems very shortsighted. Futures can be traded more easily than a goalie to fill roster spots. If the Jets can't stay in the race in the meantime they aren't legit, anyway.

So, I see murmurs of trade interest in Nikishin from Nashville. Perhaps some options for a follow-on Hellebuyck trade to CAR? To NSH: Nikishin To CAR: Hellebuyck To WPG: Blake (NSH), 1st (CAR), Surin/Lee (NSH)

Water under the bridge, but here's my guess... Buffalo offered #4 + #20 + UPL + player for... Hellebuyck + #8 Jets' sghts were set on Bjorck (which was why Buffalo dangled #4), but including #8 was bad value overall. UPL's NTC really complicates things, due to cap and roster glut for the Sabres.

If Chevy pulls off a strong Hellebuyck trade, he might be a candidate for "Comeback GM of the Year". Unfortunately, he established a pretty low floor last year.

I haven't seen any commentary about it, but I think it's somewhat notable that the Jets selected two more goalies in the draft. They already have a couple of young goalies in the pipeline. My interpretation is that they might lack optimism about DD or Milic. Or maybe really like Hrenak.

Mulling about a Hellebuyck trade... My guess is that it's down to a grind with one or more teams. Sabres were evidently interested in a big move for Helle (just not big enough). The only change has been that they traded one goalie away. So, it's highly unlikely that their interest has evaporated.

youtu.be/joUgwn57MQA?... Jets' scouting staff and GM were obviously very, very happy to snag Bjorck at #8. They cheered when the Kraken took the highest rated D at #7. I'd guess the Jets would have taken Bjorck at #4, if they'd acquired it from BUF.

The $18M AAV offered to Carlsson sure seemed like a lot, but then I remembered that it's only 500K more than the Sharks will be paying Nurse+Trouba and it seems reasonable, by comparison.

Lots of discussion about Viggo Bjorck at 2C, but I don't think that's the only option. Remember, Lowry was the de facto 2C for a couple of seasons, before his injury. I could imagine 2a and 2b line setup. 81-55-13 91-17-Quinn(?) Rosen-Bjorck-9 Nino-36-Lambert Koepke 44-2 54-4 Ferraro-Salomonsson

Managed to get to the Jets' prospect scrimmage. Bjorck is really impressive. His positioning is outstanding, and his vision and hands were on display. Hard to assess in this environment, but I noticed Nehring in a good way. Freij with a few deep dish pizzas, but his skating is so good.

I'm kind of interested in the notion that only teams with really weak or thin goaltending should be interested in Hellebuyck. Is there no merit in getting a better goalie? By analogy, do teams say they don't want a better top C because they already have an okay C? The goalie market is fascinating.

I'm fascinated by the notion that an analytically focused GM like Mehta wouldn't see value in the NHL's top goalie. Yes, goalies are unpredictable in playoffs, but so are individual skaters to a degree. But a rock-solid goalie offers huge advantages during a regular season and affords flexibility.

Jets draft a somewhat unexpected Slovakian goalie (Hrenak) at #71. Player with Fargo (USHL), so the Jets might have seen him a lot. Also had a stellar U-18 tourney, with lots of Jets' scouts looking on.

Interesting article from @wpgmurat.bsky.social on possible trade proposals. By far the most intriguing, and evidently plausible, is Hellebuyck for #9 and Lundell. Jets could flip #9 for another asset, or have two top prospects. www.nytimes.com/athletic/735...

Verhoeff indicates he had a very good meeting with the Jets at the combine... He had some good combine performances too, particularly in agility and fitness. Chevy mentioned going to scout at NoDak late in the season. I wouldn't be surprised if he's high on the Jets board.

Perspective... It's illogical for the Jets to trade the #8 pick in 2026 to go "all in", without also putting the 2027 1st round pick (unprotected) on the trade market to invest even more. So, who thinks the Jets should trade their 2026 and 2027 1sts to build on this core?

Lots of discussion about the Sharks trading their #2 overall pick, with some suggestions that the Jets might be a trade suitor. Theory is that the Sharks are looking for a RHD to draft. So, pivot to another idea: To SJ: #8 overall pick To Jets: #20 pick + Bystedt (or Musty?)

Much discussion about the imperative to trade the #8 overall pick to "invest" in this core, with anxiety that #37 will be ticked off if the Jets don't. 1) Prospects can be traded, often with more value than a pick. 2) Jets can wait and see if this core is good enough before trading away futures.

Lots of buzz about Bjorck for the 2026 draft. He seems like a draft riser. The Jets have tended to be pretty "chalk" in their drafting (Scheifele might have been their boldest pick). Would they consider Bjorck? I hope so. Will he be available at 8? It seemed likely two weeks ago, but less so now.

Manitoba Moose have scored 9 goals in the playoffs so far. They are in the 3rd period of their 7th game. They just have no offense, including a pathetic PP. They really need to review their coaching and development from top to bottom.
