"Is what I want to say or do genuinely helpful, or am I serving my ego by performing activism publicly? Will this multi-paragraph Facebook response change any minds, or am I just angry and want to lash out? Is this the best possible way for me to reach my end goal?" @kittystryker.bsky.social

I have several upcoming events & would love to see you at one or more of them.
Image 1

A promotional graphic for “DEAD RECKONING,” featuring a dark, purple-tinted photograph of leafless trees and gravestones in a cemetery. A pink-to-orange arched outline surrounds a neon-pink illustration of a skeleton lying down and holding a scythe. The word “DEAD” appears above the skeleton and “RECKONING” below it. Large cutout-style letters spelling “LIVE” overlap the lower right of the graphic. White text announces two events: “Oct. 9, 5:30 p.m. — Valencia’s deadly past with historian Elizabeth Creely — Paxton Gate, 824 Valencia St., San Francisco,” and “Oct. 21, 7 p.m. — Haunted Oakland — Clio’s Books, 353 Grand Ave., Oakland.” The bottom says, “Links & details in bio.”

Image 2

A promotional graphic titled “Swim Poems,” with large white hand-lettered text outlined in black over an abstract blue-and-white watery background. A portrait of a woman with long brown hair and glasses appears in the lower left inside an irregular purple-outlined frame. On the right are dark translucent boxes listing upcoming readings: “Literary Speakeasy — Sept. 24, 7 p.m. — Martini’s, SF” and “Literary Salon — Oct. 16, 5:30 p.m. — Writers Grotto, SF.” The top listing, “Readings — Babylon Salon — Sept. 12, 6:30 p.m. — The Sycamore, SF,” is crossed out with a large red X.

This report is important in that it points out a lot of San Francisco green space is tied up in golf courses, which are losing the city almost $5 million a year. But I hope nobody takes this as a cue to turn Lincoln Park with its 10-20k graves into a housing site. archive.is/9xONo

Let me get this straight. There's an antiviral med that's an alternative to Paxlovid, called Lagevrio, that helps people who are at higher risk for serious illness with Covid (that's me), but none of the chain drugstores in San Francisco carry it? What good does that do me?

As folks debate whether to keep Sunset Dunes or reopen the Great Highway to cars, here's a 1944 image of the tombstones piled up on Ocean Beach along the Great Highway, courtesy the DigitalSF archive at SFPL.
"The old tombstones, pieces of mausoleums and brick and stone pillars from Laurel Hill Cemetery used by the Department of Public Works as fill along the Great Highway opposite Rivera-st proved of great interest to these three boys when they discovered the 800-foot washout at beach. The west side of the highway has been closed for several weeks. It is expected to be re-opened this week, according to city officials."
