That YYC to YVR view is one I never get tired of. See you soon Salt Spring! @davemason.bsky.social
The view looking out an airplane window. The engine is at the bottom of the photo and there’s an air Canada wing tip at the right side of the photo. The main view is of endless snow capped mountains.

Someone decided to show us what we were late on preparing this morning. When you’re 20, breakfast (and the three other meals of the day) are serious business. @davemason.bsky.social saved the day and our lives from what could have been an angry hungry cat.
A black and white and orange (calico) cat sits in front of her automatic food dispenser with a sad look on her face.

I haven’t been keeping a thread of my read books anywhere this year, but popping by to say that if you’re in need of a book that will make you fall in love with its characters and then rip your heart out over and over again, you should definitely read “A Little Life” by Hanya Yanagihara. 😭😭😭😭😭😭 💙📚
The cover of the book “A Little Life” by Hanya Yanagihara. It is a black and white photo of a man who looks to be in incredible pain - either physical or emotional or both.

Highly recommend a read of this book if you haven’t read it and are interested in the drivers of homelessness.

Storm loving romance reading book fans - have we all seen this book that just released!? Whirlwind by Kayla Grosse. Apparently it’s a Twister-inspired romance with a Jensen Ackles lookalike for the male main character. I’m putting it on my TBR immediately. @wxliz.bsky.social have you read it? 📚

Sounds like the audience is trying to help them know it’s not their singing/not about them… I hope it’s like that for every game. But also, if Trump says no more anthems, that will really bug folks so…
A screenshot saying: “say what you want about the crowd booing the US anthem in Vancouver tonight at the Canucks vs Red Wings game, but the crowd applauding the singer after she finished the anthem followed by her giant smile when they started to sing “Oh Canada” with her was a pretty nice moment.”

A friend just posted this in one of our reading discords so the feeling seems to be pretty uniform. 😂 (I haven’t read any of the series so I am oblivious).
Two photos. On the left, the text reads: “Me, starting Onyx Storm.” It’s a photo of Will Ferrell in Elf, very excited, happy, and fresh.

On the right, the words: “Me, after reading Onyx Storm.” ⛈️ TD a photo of someone who looks like Will Ferrell, but he isn’t smiling, has aged decades, is unkempt, and there’s a cigarette hanging from his mouth.

If you need some optimism in your reading world, I highly recommend giving this collection of essays/interviews a read. We’ve heard all the doom about our climate emergency. “What If We Get It Right” takes a moment to share a vision of the future if we do make changes. It’s hope, for a change.

Officially an award winner with three other amazing weather photographers. Going to frame this and put it on my wall at school so when parents yell at me I can point to it and whisper, “I’m award winning 🥹”. Probably not though.
An award certificate that says gold award winning photograph in a series or essay. The series was called Water, Wind & Fire and was published by Canadian Cowboy Country. The three co-winning photographers are Craig Boehm, Shannon Bileski, Braydon Morisseau. The award was presented by the Alberta magazine publishers association.

I know I'm supposed to be a storm/weather account, but when it's January and there's no good weather anywhere close to me, I find other hobbies. Let me tell you, my notion site to keep my cross stitch organized is giving me JOY right now. I built this from a blank page; no template.
A screenshot of my Notion dashboard to keep my cross stitch projects organized. It has a title at the top saying "Cross Stitch Project Tracker." There is a horizontal menu for things like Patterns, Projects, Statistics, etc. There are also buttons for new floss, projects, etc. In the main view is a "recently added charts" that has five cross stitch charts along with their stats.

Poutine liked her stairs onto the bed so much (and has been a noticeably happier, in less pain cat since using them) that we got her a smaller set to get her more easily onto her her other favourite place - a throne fit for a Poutine with a heating pad for cats.

Making Notion dashboards is 2024s Geocities page-making. Which is to say I am obsessed. Yes, all that updates on its own once the project has been added. Who needs to cross stitch when you can baby code instead? It’s also hitting my dopamine brain beautifully. Who needs storms? 😂🫣

This is all we get for tornado alerts.
Example of tornado alert. The text isn’t important, it’s an example of how poor the warning text is compared to civil emergency alerts.

Finished my last two cross stitch ornaments before December! This means all 12 are done and now I just have to turn them into actual ornaments. All 12 were from one very very vintage kit from the late 90s or early 00s so it’s fun to finally see them finished. 😂
Two small cross stitched designs. The one on the left is a brown bear holding a sign that says “Joy”. It has a red checked sweater and a green overcoat with a green fur hat. The one on the right is holding bells and has a green and red sweater with a green Santa hat.

Sometimes I get really lucky and have a train show up to this corner without waiting more than a few minutes. (Morant’s Curve in Banff National Park)
A long exposure photo of a train going around Morant’s Curve. The train is orange-ish and the long exposure makes it look like a long square snake. The trees are dark green and yellow around it and the three mountains in the background are covered in mist and moody clouds.

The best thing about snow in #yyc is that it reminds me my favourite winter birds will start arriving soon (or might already have arrived).
A Snowy Owl sits on a rustic grey fence post. The fence stretches left to right with barbed wire in four strings across the fence posts. There is time ice on the vegetation and barbed wire.

Since BlueSky is my dysregulated nervous system, I’m just going full chaos with when I share a photo. Here’s one of my favourites from Saskatchewan many years ago.
A thin white tornado hangs from heavy billowing clouds on the right side of the screen. The area behind the tornado is dark but the grass field in the foreground is bright green.

My almost Bruckheimer moment. This was taken down near the US/Mexico border in Arizona during a monsoon storm. I had to keep playing chicken with the cats until a bolt behaved.
