released the following statement ahead of today's rushed announcement by Republican
legislative leaders and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, which follows Amy Acton's
call to suspend Ohio's motor fuel tax:
"Ohioans are paying $4.52 a gallon for gas and almost $7 for diesel. They desperately
need relief from the costs of the failed war in the Middle East. Vivek Ramaswamy's
knee-jerk response to Dr. Acton's plan has demonstrated no understanding of how the
state government works, how the budget is structured, or how taxpayer dollars should be
spent.
We can enact Dr. Acton's Gas Tax Holiday, but it has to be paid for in a way that makes
sense for Ohioans. A gas tax holiday could be paid for with the $600 million the
Republican legislature has tried to allocate to billionaire Jimmy Haslam for his NFL
team.
The state is in court right now, spending Ohioans' money, fighting for the right to hand
$600 million of Ohioans' unclaimed funds to Jimmy Haslam. A billion dollars of that
money was written into this budget for sports stadiums.

On April 11, 2026, we lost Lynnea, Luke, and their one-year-old son Logan in a crash on I-71 in Delaware County, Ohio. We have spent the months since trying to grieve, support each other, and get through the criminal case with some measure of privacy.
Footage of the crash site and a photograph of the three of them are being used, without our consent, in an advertisement from Senator Jon Husted's campaign. The photograph was taken by Anton Marandi, a friend of the family, who holds the copyright and did not give his permission.
We were not asked. We would not have agreed.
This is not a statement about immigration policy, and we are not making one for any party or candidate. It is a statement about our family. Lynnea and Luke were not political symbols. Lynnea was a beloved veterinarian.
Luke loved to brew beer. They kept an apiary and sold their honey at markets. They loved each other and their son. Logan was one year old.
Our grief is not raw material for a campaign, and their images are not public property to repurpose for anyone's advantage.
We did not immediately go public. We wrote to the campaign privately on August 17, by email and certified mail, delivered August 19. A week later we have had no reply, and the advertisement is still running.
We are asking that the advertisement be taken down, and that our family's images and this tragedy not be used in political messaging by any campaign, going forward. We would ask the same of any candidate, of any party, who did this.
We are asking it now of Senator Husted.
