Man, remembering faces is hard enough, and I’m at a wedding full of people I only met at my own wedding so I remember them primarily as a table assignment, and on top of that we have GLP-1s so some faces have changed entirely. More people need distinctive tattoos, please.

A.K. Larkwood, THE UNSPOKEN NAME, finished 10/7. Reread. Child priestess runs away to become a swordswoman, exchange rude notes with her BFF, and fall for a sorceress. The A plot is less fun but it’s still a very good read.

This week feels like a weight, pressing me down into something small and quiet and close to the ground, and I’m not even a survivor. I don’t have acute trauma to relive every time we read about this, again and again and again. I’m just so fucking tired.

The research in this article feels like fatigue leaving a mark in bloodwork. Men and women see things differently: women see danger everywhere, because we have to. Most of us know our rapists and our murderers, but we still scan shadows for strangers. www.not-ship.com/safe-streets...

Do we actually know how to make cities safer for women?
Women-only buses, catcalling fines and gender-sensitive design — we've tried them all.

I have been thinking about this article, and particularly this excerpt, quite a lot over the last couple of days. It’s a “research demonstrates what we already knew” scenario, like chronic pain finally leaving traces on an MRI. I’ve known my whole life. I’m so tired of knowing.
Screenshot reading:

Let's start with what people misunderstand about sexual violence on college campuses.

One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.

For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

C.M. Waggoner, THE VILLAGE LIBRARY DEMON-HUNTING SOCIETY, finished 10/4. Cozy librarian solves cozy mysteries, until she starts wondering why nobody’s questioning the murder rate in the cozy village. I love unreliable/uninformed narrators, and this one is extremely well done.

Once at my granny's house my uncle excitedly said a James Bond film was on the tv. My Da said "sure they're all the same, a load of lads shooting at one lad then a mountain blows up." My uncle got really mad at how reductive that was then became furious when the mountain blew up.

I’ve noticed this with Mood lately and they do seem to be using ground to mean a different fabric in the same color or print. Which makes sense when it’s leopard print on cotton lawn vs rayon challis, or their in-house specialty colors, but black? I’m seeing different SKUs for each though.

There were more men in a single documented gang rape at one school than the number of competitive trans athletes nationally. But I’ve heard a lot more politicians being asked about protecting girls from one of these scenarios and not another… I’ll let you guess which is which.
