one of the best decisions you can make as an artist is to stop talking about your artwork from a position of defending it. the artists statement should be a tool of pride, community, and conversation, not an appeal to those who had no interest in (or ability to) understand it in the first place.

I'm seeing a lot of folks critiquing the current wave of AI slop recomps and saying "We don't even need ports, we have emulators." I want to push back against that a bit. Sure, a sloppy port is worse than an emulator, but something like Dusklight is undeniably better than Dolphin.

This is why they go easy on things like fangames that remake existing works, because it pushes the BRAND, it has never been about appreciation, If we look at say, Nintendo, their goal with their brands are high quality games, this results in their incredibly strict behaviour with fan works.

It's ironic because I see the process as making something simply cause you can, versus having emotion and a point which you care about conveying. Any longer fangame suffers from a lack of more complicated arcs, relying on style over substance, or having no themes.
