This little guy is a trooper. He had an inner ear polyp that decimated his ear and was heading to his brain. UGA surgeons couldn't find any prior cases of it in a cat his age. He's an original. Maybe he'll be in a journal article.

We stopped by Northpoint Mall for the first time in years yesterday. This is what it looks like at noon on a summer day 2.5 weeks before school starts back up. I can't imagine why the owners want to redevelop it.

Hockey in Georgia update. The City of Alpharetta is a zoning information meeting on June 10, the focus of which will be the proposed sports and entertainment district at the Northpoint Mall location. This is where Anson Carter's group wants to put an NHL arena.

There's no way to conclusively prove I'm right, but I suspect we have the only combo indoor trampoline and curling club complex with valet parking on earth. (For those who knew the Atlanta rink scene, it's the site of the MIC, Justin Bieber's old stomping grounds).

I keep seeing posts on social media about it being inevitable that Vernon Krause is getting an NHL expansion team in Forsyth County, partly because they're moving forward with construction. This is the site as of 3 weeks ago. There's nothing happening there. Balsillie and Del Biaggio vibes abound.

My Kroger has new grocery carts and I have thoughts. They feel smaller on the interior, and the cup holder is where I usually put my right hand, so now my hand placement is unbalanced. I assume they're cheaper to manufacture, and maybe they're made with recycled plastic, but they're a downgrade.

A few weeks ago on @thesheethockey.bsky.social NHL insider Dave Pagnotta said the Vernon Krause group was the front runner to land an NHL team in Atlanta because "they're building their facility now, building their entertainment district." This is what it looked like as of Sunday.

The Cobb County School District (Georgia) plans to lay down the law if any students walk out to join ICE protests on Friday, including barring them from sports and other activities. Meanwhile CCSD board member Cristadoro had a $225,000 fraud judgement against him and he still has his position.

Cobb High School Community,

We are aware of efforts by external groups to recruit students for a rally regarding ICE on Friday, January 30, 2026. Their campaign asks students to leave class and/or authorized school areas during the school day, which would disrupt school operations and distract students and teachers.

Your teachers and principal are focused on teaching and learning. While we respect the right of students to express their views in a non-disruptive way, students are expected to be in class and engaged in learning throughout the school day.

Anyone who violates the Code of Conduct, including leaving class, skipping class, leaving authorized areas, unexcused absences, and/or disrupting the instructional day, will receive consequences in accordance with District policies. Those consequences include out-of-school suspension and the potential loss of parking privileges, sports, and extracurricular privileges. Each has long-lasting impacts that could be taken into account by college admission offices and future employers.

We encourage families to speak with their children about appropriate civic engagement and the importance of not disrupting school. Thank you for being part of our Team and for your support as we focus on the vision for our schools: excellent teaching and learning, so all students have an opportunity to succeed.

He was our third pet to pass over the years, but it was the first time I was able to be there by my wife's side for the process. It's a gift for her to be able to ease suffering. A sacred moment that I was honored to witness. Rest well Eddie.

We've known the end was near, and it made for a rough Christmas, but we closed out New Year's Day by saying goodbye to our 19 year old cat. My wife is the best vet on earth, so he passed quietly and comfortably.

I just blew my teen son's mind by telling him that I had a podcast with an NHL player before Spotify existed in the US. Pour one out for the Exelby Files. It was hosted as mp3 files on the Thrashers website, so I'm pretty sure no episodes exist out there.
