Driving past this and telling my partner they left a note for the cleaners. She’s really had enough of it now.
Facade of art deco building in west London reads ‘Hoover Building’. For American friends, hoover means vacuum in the UK.

Or at least do the trend properly and ironically attach it to a kitchen spatula as an impromptu mic.

Another excellent analysis from Dan Neidle on how the very wealthy can avoid stamp duty. Personally triggering as I am staring at a £30k SDLT bill, a move I have to do for work. I cannot easily add five more properties to the deal for less than the sum of the tax taxpolicy.org.uk/2026/09/22/n...

Nick Candy, Suneil Setiya, and £18.5m stamp duty avoided
Nick Candy’s £265m mansion was the UK’s biggest-ever house sale. We reveal how adding five small flats appears to have avoided £18.5m of stamp duty.

Grand designs back with a classic of the genre. Young couple with £1m to spend… how will they manage etc..

Pray for your mentions 😬. Every single road user would do well to remind themselves of the hierarchy of road users before they head out. Cyclists have a responsibility to reduce danger to pedestrians. This does not take away from a car/van/lorry’s responsibility to reduce danger to cyclists.

I came very close to letting my 6 year old walk 1km home during the recent eclipse because she was being an unbearable little prick and ruining it for everyone.

A close friend is at risk of redundancy, as part of a clumsy global mega corp re-org. He leads data science and AI implementation in a large telco. Very hands on with building and implementing stuff from boring ML to shiny new LLM stuff. Where do people look for jobs these days? Is it all LinkedIn?

Get them onto the local parish or town council, even easier and an immediate direct involvement in local issues .

A 97% eclipse is 80% more underwhelming than a total eclipse. Not worth the price of the kids being dickheads because of a late bedtime 😉

Lovely day at Chessington World of Adventures, with the small caveat that paid fastrack tickets are bullshit. If I was king for a day, I would end this practice.

I stopped enjoying it too. Delivery scooters and kids as you describe without helmets (I assume to prevent police pursuit) all over the roads. Came very close to being bike jacked, so went back to public transport.

House move making some progress, lawyers are lawyering. Next major admin is schools. It’s 2026 and the online experience is still appalling. Why are you making me interact with a GIS tool? Completely unusable on mobile. Let me put a postcode in a field and have a list of results returned please.

💯 this. One of the most important long tail effects of the Government Digital Service is the increased accessibility of public sector digital services - which helps everyone.

I have three kids and enjoy camping trips. A Skoda Octavia estate is more than enough car and its tiny 1.0 litre engine happily gets us to the alps and back. I don’t understand the fascination with these giant cars

My local council has replaced the main search bar with an AI chat and I don’t like it. I’m just not convinced every interaction needs to be a bloody chat. The integrations with some back office systems is neat, I’d just like to see a new UX paradigm for this stuff

Benjamin here, only my parents use it…. but agree it’s lovey to have the option there. I think my later years will be mostly hedonism and eccentricity as a Benjamin.

OK, this is an unlikely ask: is anyone in S London willing/able to lend an MTB/gravel bike for next weekend, suitable for someone about 5ft 9in? Reasons/justification/location in next post. In return: a cleaned bike/eternal gratitude/nice bottle of wine/even some cold, hard ££ if preferred.

It’s a compelling idea from the practicalities of testing new services. Would need to consider that testing on the IOW is to test with a population that is whiter and older than the rest of the UK.
