I don’t think I’ve said it here yet, but I’m opening a vintage store in Mar Vista with my wife right now. Currently tediously tagging and pricing hundreds of pieces of clothing. Hoping to have grand opening in next couple of weeks. Super excited and also pretty scared, totally new territory.

Good mail day. Some movies require all of the 4K pixels.

The Hot Spot (1990) on 4K UHD from the fine folks at Radiance.

First it came for people smiling at you in public. Now it’s just eye contact. Better to just not leave the house at all kids.

Listening to the new archival release from The Cramps and I don’t think I ever realized how much DNA they share with The B-52’s.

Forehead lines and fucked up teeth are underrated things that you don’t often see in new movies anymore.

I missed last month’s Barnes and Noble Criterion sale, but I grabbed these from their new Arrow sale. Watched both of these a lot on VHS back in the day.

Good mail day. It’s the whole bloody affair. No plans to watch this anytime soon again. Also got the Mojave 3 first four album reissues, but you’ll have to take my word on that.

Good mail day. Two new releases from Australia boutique New Wave Video. Kind of scared to watch VISITOR Q again, but I feel like I’ll be more prepared for it now than I was at 20. Also grabbed NUN IN ROPE HELL, so yeah…

Oldest shirt I’ve owned continuously is this PJ Harvey shirt from her To Bring You My Love tour in 1995. I bought it at a record store in Simi Valley in the late 90s and wore it to high school often. It fits again now, so I’ve been wearing it again.

Where’d I get it: Thrifted Why’d I get it: It’s Vince Edwards, star of MURDER BY CONTRACT and discogs said it was funk. On Spotify: No How many plays: 1 Verdict: 4/10. The type of traditional 60s pop that I almost never respond to (unless it’s perverse like Scott Walker). Keep or sell: Sell

Where’d I get it: Record Outlet for $2 years ago Why’d I get it: 70s funk for $2. On Spotify: Yes How many plays: 2 Verdict: Light 7/10. “Rock Creek Park” is the first track and by far the highlight. Definitely can see why it was sampled so often. Rest is just okay. Keep or sell: Sell.

MacKaye and Rollins are doing some amazing things with formerly unreleased punk records. Rollins’ archival UK Subs and Adverts records on In The Red Records are worth grabbing but this is easily their most important release so far.

Good mail day. Hey, it’s a book edition. The story of one of my favorite bands, New Zealand’s The Clean, as told by band members and people from the scene. I can’t wait to dig into this and listen through their records again at the same time. So many essential Flying Nun books in the last few years.

RIP Sonny Rollins, a great jazz talent and the last surviving musician in one of the best photos of men in suits during the 20th century

The black-and-white photo A Great Day in Harlem shows 57 musicians gathered around the steps of a Harlem brownstone, while some kids sit on the curb. The photo was originally shot for an August 1958 issue of Esquire Magazine.

12 live shows in 2026 so far. 11 were music, 1 was comedy. I was supposed to see The Feelies this weekend in New Jersey but I’m not going to make it. Anyone want those tickets?
