Let's stop using anodyne labels like "the immigration debate" or "controversy over migrants" and start referring to things accurately. "Expelling children who, by law, are entitled to remain in the country" or "imprisoning toddlers in concentration camps" or "pogrom"

(For the record, I'm actively involved in Democratic politics. But the spectrum you have to work in runs from people that read actual science and their next door neighbor who once saw an unhoused person piss on their building, and those both have equal votes in a democracy.)

There is a case, right now, about whether Jews should have equal access to adoption services in Tennessee, partially because privatization of public services has allowed for religious groups to inject their dogma into family formation. law.justia.com/cases/tennes...

White supremacy changed the way that it views* many** Asian*** ethnicities**** over the years, but still exists as a system. Similarly, Christian supremacy has been diminished, but is absolutely at the core of American society.

There's probably some way to do Christianity without antisemitism, but the prevailing strains 1) are embedded in all social service programs that the state provides, 2) form part of the necessary social connection for elections, and 3) provide advice to top levels of government. This is a system!

Ben Steele @bensteele.bsky.social · 18h
It's not that antisemitism is up in the way that it was when Jewish students were banned from the Ivies. It's that we have massive institutions that are connected with state power who, just in their regular business, pump out hate that is normalized. The para state hate machine is systemic.

Those have experienced a full resurgence though, and the fascism has not stopped. Maybe it's because they're worn over one shoulder, like heathens?

Thank you, Chris Rock, for delivering unto me an example of why I feel that saying antisemitism is not systemic is wrong, since the discussion here isn't how he also is embedding supersessionism into his statement that Woke 1 was the Jewish Bible.

Katie Wilson used the Line 2 opening to send shoppers in flip flops and pajamas to Bellevue Square, destroying its cultural value of providing Auntie Anne's pretzels to hungover 30 somethings trying to replace their favorite work pant that just tore in the crotch.

I know a whole lot of Diana's. In her generation and in mine. It sits with me every day that they drag us further and further into a moral and spiritual darkness so that they can continue to say they did nothing wrong, that they have no power, that we can't help everyone.

I like the idea that the Democrats have ever been 100% focused on poverty. Like, Yggy, in Socialist Utopia Seattle, when we want to figure out how to house our homeless population, we have to figure out how to do that within political constraints where half the city openly wants to euthanize them.

People in the church but outside their specific circle know them for writing worship music. They're a Charismatic movement "school" of ministry. They came back into my life when the evangelism "professor" straight up did a psychic cold read on the class and my cousin was like "That's Ben!"

Banger essay on the illegitimate sophistry behind the judiciary's illegitimate rule over the United States. I would add that, just like during the era of the Slave Power that preceded the Civil War, the Wizard Council gets to lord over us because our defective constitution gives the Senate a veto.

This is why folks should not waste time designing the perfect and optimized system of higher education and R&D investment. That’s unnecessary when an underinvested system is under attack. We should start by setting core guiding objectives and tripling the investment, and adjust as needed.

As a Washingtonian,,, I'm confused about these specific battle lines, but I'm going to let the girls fight, because I'm mildly convinced this will ameliorate some of my winter depression since we should not be in the same time zone as California.

Abolish The Death Penalty. And Reform The Prisons. - Lawyers, Guns & Money
I don’t say much about prison reform, but it’s something that has bothered me for a long time. The reason I don’t say much about it is that it seems so hopeless. That wasn’t always true. Back in the 1970s, it must have been, there was a real prison reform movement, and it was making […]

This only works if you're insured through your job. Otherwise you should call your state department of insurance. One of the best legal things to point out is that almost all your plan documents include the promise of a medical professional's review, which an AI is not.
