Low-key I can't believe this didn't explode this morning when I removed the sides.

Okay, objectively one of the most unpleasant reads I've ever experienced, but this did pull me out of it and get me to cackle. The gender of it all.
A photograph of a page of text reading "The lieutenant, who had never once before helped with the bedding, now cheerfully slid back the door of the closet, lifted the mattress across the room by himself, and stowed it inside."

I almost screamed reading this passage, where a suitor for our ex-Greater East Asian Coprosperity Sphere propaganda artist is explaining how those responsible for the war crimes should take responsibility and, uh, apologize. Background unrelated.

Me for the last two years: No photos out the window. Geoguessr would be way too easy and I have no idea what the impact could be. Me, tonight: I CAN POST MY CAT (and one other shot) FINALLY
A Siamese mix cat stares at the camera absolutely mogging next to a strawberry plantA cat states whistfully out from the balcony toward the roof of a neighboring buildingIdeal Seattle weather. Don't move here, or whatever the locals say.During the move out she was getting some final sunsets before she gets a sunrise apartment. She's standing mid ground on a yoga mat in a mostly deconstructed room next to a wagon loaded up and ready to go. I imagine she's being very melancholy but she's never actually had a thought in her life.

This has been a solid album KEXP had in their 6 Albums for the week. They really enjoyed Flight Simulator, but Chalk does it for me: youtu.be/TkTRa6a2zQI?...
Antony Szmierek - Decoding Birdsong (Mushroom Music)

Szmierek is another awesome showcase of his poetic spoken word rapping, pulsating electronic beats, and smart pop sensibilities. With its thoroughly inquisitive, profound, and optimistic energy, ‘Decoding Birdsong’ is a sharp follow-up to his breakout 2025 debut album ‘Service Station at the End of the Universe’ as he delivers a uniquely kinetic sound reminiscent at times of The Streets, Joshua Idehen, Faithless, LCD Soundsystem, Underworld, and Fred again.., yet it ultimately exists in Antony’s own singular lane. –Alex Ruder

The failure for seven months for anyone to be brought to justice through legitimate means is driving loss of faith in the "justice" system. It is concerning to watch continued escalation of rhetoric that is the logical endpoint when the legal system cannot justify its malprotection any longer.
New stickers popping up in Seattle bluntly calling for the murder of the federal official who committed a summary execution of a United States citizen in the streets of Minneapolis.

Super excited to be enjoying a talk tonight by Don Morgan of the Bank of North Dakota about how he runs the nation's sole public bank.
Don Morgan presents the rough structure of oversight for the Bank of North Dakota, with the legislature and industrial commission overseeing the advisory board over the bank itself.

All the glass sculpture in Cal Anderson have etched words in them that are better revealed with water and a little bit of light.

I like this mailer because it really shows how many twists and turns it takes to get from A to B when all we want is an income tax and to kill the sales tax, which he could have actually pushed on if he didn't want to take us on a garden path of budget cuts next session.

I made it. It's done. I also made permanent (i.e. cardstock) patterns so I can make it again. I never want to make another one. I'm never forgetting my grocery bag. Thank you, impending return of my roommate from vacation, for forcing me to finish this after midnight.

I'm avoiding going grocery shopping by taking a pattern drafting course. So naturally my first pattern I draft is going to be a canvas paper bag.
Schematic drawings for a 3 panel tote bag patterned off a paper bag that says "CECI N'EST PAS UN PAPER BAG" where the grocery store logo would go. A small sample of the wording is on muslin so I can check the sizing of it all. I have not trimmed the auto-embroidery ends, because I am lazy and this is a sample.

Panic beard trim after someone suggested one of the gravest insults I've ever taken
Ben gives a peace sign while wearing a hat and having a first-pass trimmed beard after letting it get too long. He is putting out his tongue so you cannot allege he is posting bear face and his crop is strange but provides all the details he determined were essential while also admitting this is a mirror selfie because he keeps putting off going back to the phone repair guy that fixed his screen but in the process made his front camera very blurry. His phone case is very loud and distracts from him. This might be to his benefit.

Karp's manifesto is Saruman, cooked beyond all saving by none other than the namesake of his company.
Saruman's pitch to Gandalf to switch sides:
‘ ‘‘And listen, Gandalf, my old friend and helper!’’ he said,
coming near and speaking now in a softer voice. ‘‘I said we,
for we it may be, if you will join with me. A new Power is
rising. Against it the old allies and policies will not avail us at
all. There is no hope left in Elves or dying Nu´menor. This
then is one choice before you, before us. We may join with 338 the fellowship of the ring
that Power. It would be wise, Gandalf. There is hope that
way. Its victory is at hand; and there will be rich reward for
those that aided it. As the Power grows, its proved friends
will also grow; and the Wise, such as you and I, may with
patience come at last to direct its courses, to control it. We
can bide our time, we can keep our thoughts in our hearts,
deploring maybe evils done by the way, but approving the
high and ultimate purpose: Knowledge, Rule, Order; all the
things that we have so far striven in vain to accomplish,
hindered rather than helped by our weak or idle friends.
There need not be, there would not be, any real change in
our designs, only in our means.’’
‘ ‘‘Saruman,’’ I said, ‘‘I have heard speeches of this kind
before, but only in the mouths of emissaries sent from
Mordor to deceive the ignorant. I cannot think that you
brought me so far only to weary my ears.’’
‘He looked at me sidelong, and paused a while considering.
‘‘Well, I see that this wise course does not commend itself
to you,’’ he said. ‘‘Not yet? Not if some better way can be
contrived?’’
‘He came and laid his long hand on my arm. ‘‘And why
not, Gandalf ?’’ he whispered. ‘‘Why not? The Ruling Ring?
If we could command that, then the Power would pass to us.

I love the FTC's honesty when you report fraud. "We can't resolve your individual report," or «The form you filled out will be ignored because we are pro-scam.»
A web page reading: "What Happens Next

Thank you for reporting!

We can't resolve your individual report, but we use reports to investigate and bring cases against fraud, scams, and bad business practices.
Your report goes into the FTC's Consumer Sentinel database, which is available to federal, state, and local law enforcement across the country.
We use reports to spot trends, educate the public, and share data about what is happening in your community. You can learn what other people in your state or metro area are reporting by visiting ftc.gov/exploredata.
When the FTC brings cases, we try to get money back for people. At ftc.gov/refunds you can see recent FTC cases that resulted in refunds."

Okay, watching a machine do this while I just push a button and don't even pretend to care about all the other things I need to do to make it nice was insane. My boyfriend did immediately call it a line of buttholes when I showed him, though.
A very wrinkled piece of undyed cloth (Ben really wanted to run something through this machine to prove it worked). To the right is a straight seam and what is probably an edging stitch. In the middle, highlighted under harsh LED light is a red embroidery pattern machined on. On a red through line are asterisks and smaller baubles.

It's a little bit... Messy, but Ben is blaming this on the fact that he shoved unpressed fabric in.

Every once in a while I have an important thought ("Was Harvey Milk a NIMBY?") and get lost down a rabbit hole going "No, but this dogshit line of his getting called socialism is the most painfully American thing I've ever read."
A screengrab of a quotation from Randy Shilts' The Mayor of Castro Street: The Life and Times of Harvey Milk (p. 203): “The media coup of the year and the issue that best symbolized Harvey’s theories on how government should work, centered on the mundane subject of dog feces. Survey after survey showed that sidewalk dog droppings were San Franciscans’ biggest complaint about city life. Milk, therefore, sponsored a bill requiring dog owners to clean up after their pets, waxing philosophically that, ‘It’s symbolic of all the problems of irresponsibility we face in big, depersonalized, alienating urban societies.’ […] ‘Whoever can solve the dogshit problem can be elected mayor of San Francisco, even President of the United States.’ Years later, some would claim Harvey was a socialist or various other sorts of ideologues, but, in reality, Harvey’s political philosophy was never more complicated than the issue of dogshit; government should solve people’s basic problems.”

The way Sound Transit is stopping the 2 car 2 line live integration testing trains in the middle of the platform rather than at the front end is a really nice touch. Anyways, here were the headways when I got onto the platform at Cap Hill. The most beautiful thing I've experienced in Seattle.
A train arrival time screen in Seattle's Sound Transit Link light rail Capitol Hill station showing, in addition to the standard 1 line service to Federal Way in 5 minutes, 2 2 line services to International District/Chinatown in 1 and 8 minutes.

We also put up statements from our local today in my office, which felt kind of scary to do from inside the house. But they fucking killed our coworker.
A small piece of paper in the AFGE colors reads "AFGE Local 2391 stands with AFGE Local 3669, our VA counterparts, morning the death of member Alex Pretty, RN, and recognizing his honorable work as a caretaker while condemning the violence perpetrated against our membership."
