Good to hear that. Have noticed that I've started to struggle a bit with the changes of light :-(

...the Dvorak cello concerto, and was surprisingly blown away by Feldman's Crippled symmetry and the two sections from Ades' Dante ballet. Here's to next year's centenary year!

In other news am thoroughly chuffed having, for the first time ever, heard every single Prom broadcast on the radio this season - all 80-something of them. Of the more unusual Proms loved Turkish folk rock group Altun Gun, the enthusiasm and musicality of the young people of the National Open...

Boorman and the Devil - absolutely fascinating film about the process of film making. Some laugh out loud moments and a few gasps. Would thoroughly recommend it. (Despite Exorcist II, I loved Excalibur and Hope and Glory)

Oh no! I hate it when they do that. Alfie Spaniel once escaped, and I found the little beast looking thoroughly pleased with himself perched on top of a 6 ft fence looking like a furry cockerel. He was so pleased that I'd come to join him on his unexpected expedition!

Love this! I remember Dad talking to me about how films were made, when I was a small child. It didn't ruin the magic knowing that Dracula's Castle was a cardboard castle on a film lot, it somehow made it more magical that they could create something more on film out of that

Chuckled at this on IMDB about Michael Winner "In 1957 he directed his first travelogue This is Belgium, shot largely on location in East Grinstead."

Here's a good one. Microwave combi has developed a fault. Told to contact Panasonic. They ask me to video it faulting. I point out that it is randomly turning on its fan and smells smokey. Suspect that is dangerous. They insist they want the video anyway. Mad. Am NOT turning it back on.

I think (though with the British Museum's booking system, you're never 100% sure) that I've managed to book 2 tickets for the Bayeux Tapestry in February. Now to start working out in preparation for the queue.

Much amused watching a '50s film where £60 is described as a large sum of money. That's less than I'm currently paying for a tank of diesel!

Looking forward to a visit to the cinema later this week to see Boorman and the Devil, a documentary about the film that followed Deliverance and which nearly ended John Boorman's career. Looks fascinating

Today's unintentional literary connection. Both last read, For whom the bell tolls, and current read, Farewell my lovely were published in 1940. Both of course were also turned into excellent films.

Read round the world challenge - Location Spain - For whom the bell tolls / Ernest Hemingway. This was a DNF for me twice years ago. Suddenly fancied giving it another go, and adored it. Powerful writing. Fascinating too after reading many times and loving Orwell's Homage to Catalonia.

Have a nasty feeling that I may have ended up in the sort of hotel where you normally book by the hour (have form having done this in Paris), but it's cheap, cheerful and clean, so not worrying!

That sounds about right. I had a vague memory of the second one (don't think I saw the full film, nowhere near as good as the original). Only knew about the trilogy after reading the book.

Yes, I only realised about the trilogy after reading the book. I think I saw the Wicker tree a while back, the last in the trilogy was only completed by the sons this year, and haven't seen that yet.

Odd drive home. Diversion thanks to roadworks took me on a dual carriageway which appeared to be on a slope. Only realised when I got to a roundabout that it was a road I drive regularly which is not sloping. Odd how night and coming at something from a different angle can distort your perception

Absolutely fascinating to see the original stage play that a film you know really well was based on. Fascinating to see what Hitchcock had tweaked and what had remained virtually unchanged. Thoroughly enjoyed the stage play of Dial M for Murder

Enjoyable first half. Really interesting to see how Hitchcock improved on the stage play (thank you for the music). Ended up in a much better seat than originally booked but bizarrely managed to lose my programme within 2 rows. Whacky even by my standards.

Only just realised that Alan Mencken wrote Little Shop of Horrors. As soon as I knew that, heard one of the songs, and thought Doh, why did I never realise that before. It sounds so distinctively his.
