@tychotithonus Do you still need a PHD any months of spare time to set up Home Assistant? The last time I looked at it a few years ago my parting thought was "Yeah...no. Not for me."

[Not graphic, but discussion of an injury I got today] Whelp, I can cross "cut my forearm with a chainsaw and got 25 stitches and saw what the inside of an ambulance looks like" off my bucket list today. I'm fine, it's only a little sore. No loss of motion or anything, but man did I scare […]

The only peaceful solution to Russia’s war against Ukraine is for Russia to end its invasion, withdraw its forces from Ukrainian territory, and return home. Anything less is not peace; it is capitulation that abandons countless citizens to the regime; encourages more invasions.

@exchgr No, but he just keeps showing us how spineless and fickle he is. The only court in which he feels judged is the court of public opinion.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social I vote that we expand the supreme court until it's 1:1 representation with the number of people living in America.

My next task is going to be to make a nice cross platform GUI for Markerator so that it's even easier for people to use. Wish me luck!

Some said this day would never arrive, yet here we are. I'm proud to say that my static website generator, Markerator, has just had it's first release at 1.0.0. It reads in Markdown files, CSS themes, and images, and outputs a pure HTML 5/CSS static website. I've added documentation, examples […]

@vees Fun story. My aunt who lives in PA went to visit relatives in Indiana. While there, her ancient Jeep finally died so she bought a new vehicle. When she came back to PA and switched the registration, it turned out not to meet PA emissions standards. She had to petition her state Rep for […]

Have you ever gotten the unquenchable thirst to just write a compiler from scratch just for fun? Because that's what's currently happening to me. #compiler #software

Because I haven't run vanilla Gnome in a few years, I decided I'd take it for a test spin. With a few added shell extensions, I'm really liking it. The switch to GTK4/Adwaita makes it really snappy, and all the apps just really seem to gel nicely. I probably wont' stay on it, but I'll give it a […]

The future of applications/programs is not the web. I don't care if I'm swimming against the current, I refuse to accept 30 million lines of code between my app and the hardware. Native and cross platform toolkits are the future. Don't give in to Javascript...it's an abomination.

@Sdfendor Ahhh...right you are. I'll amend my post. I would've shown VSCode, but I installed that long ago once they started cramming AI up my ass.

Electron IDE vs. Native IDE. Maybe, just maybe, putting a web browser between the user and the functionality they need wasn't such a great idea?

I still can't believe that Apple has decided that colorblind users are Ok with not being able to tell how to maximize, minimize, or close an application.

I love the Metroid franchise. It was one of the first NES games I ever owned. I love Super Metroid, and Metroid Prime, but Reckoning and Metroid Dread are too frenetic for me. I just can't do it. I hate jump scares. The older I get, the more of a wuss I am […]

I mean, it sucks to live in a society. One where the more fortunate help to support the less fortunate. Or where everyone spreads their means equally. What kind of fresh hell would that look like?

Marathon: "I will kill you and take everything you've ever earned." Arc Raiders: "I'm sorry you got sniped, I like your banana trinket, let me rez you and help you to the closest extraction point." Can't believe one game is failing and the other is succeeding. Turns out humans like good humans.

As someone that has worked in software for 20+ years, specifically in UI/UX, this image hurts my soul. Why do we accept bullshit like this?

@merlinwisdom I used to thoroughly rinse mine, and then put it in the microwave for 20 or 30 seconds. I stopped doing that when I accidentally left it in there for a full minute. The smell of melted sponge was awful.
