The images that OpenAI chose (generated) to accompany its "Infrastructure Blueprint for the US" are enough to make Robert Moses blush.
This image depicts a hyper-modern urban design centered around towering skyscrapers and a complex web of elevated highways, with infrastructure dominating the landscape. The sterile layout prioritizes vehicle traffic and large-scale industrial facilities over human-scale design, with massive parking areas and transport hubs taking precedence. The city's green spaces are minimal and disconnected, serving as decorative patches rather than functional community spaces. The overpowering emphasis on highways and transit corridors reinforces a city designed for machines, not people, isolating residents in a network of impersonal structures. This vision sacrifices community, walkability, and accessibility for the sake of efficiency and scale, creating a future that feels cold, detached, and alienating.
This image presents a stark vision of a future city dominated by sprawling highways and towering interchanges, carving through and bisecting the urban fabric. The intricate network of roads, while designed for efficiency, isolates communities and prioritizes cars over people. The highways create physical and social divides, fragmenting neighborhoods and erasing the connective tissue that binds urban life. The scale of the infrastructure overwhelms the human element, suggesting a city built for transit and commerce rather than livability. It’s a vision that underscores a troubling prioritization of concrete and speed over community and connection, leaving little room for walkable spaces, public gathering areas, or cohesive neighborhoods.
