Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I just released a 139 digest-sized ruleset for my upcoming Jorune campaign to my Patrons. I'll be sharing some material on my blog next week. In the meantime, if you want to see a ruleset built for large player base, living world campaigns in a psychedelic science fantasy setting, link is in bio. 1357
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Hey so @mysteresdeparis.bsky.social just created a discord server called Back to Jorune. I hope to see you over there where we're nerding out over the only science fantasy setting from the 1980's with crystals, drugs, and psychic powers--and incredible art by Miles Teves. discord.gg/A4eYRwRshdiscord.ggJoin the Back to Jorune Discord Server!Check out the Back to Jorune community on Discord - hang out with 15 other members and enjoy free voice and text chat. 081
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I love how the picture suggests the paladins are willing to just drop God because the meteor is so cool 030
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 07/09/2026One line of questions is about this magnificent beast. Is he about to enter into a fantasy dressage competition? And why is he wearing faux native american earrings? 170
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 01/09/2026This whole thing is very cool! If you've never done zine crowdfunding and you think you have a horror module in you, apply! 0155
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I didn't mention character stats, but you can read a bit more on my blog Mazirian's Garden by using the Jorune tag, and I'm also releasing a ruleset for my upcoming campaign on my Patreon. links in bio 020
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 28/08/2026No the regional tables have jobs, those are like the careers they left behind, and the 2d6 class tables give you different flavors of the class. the lower and higher numbers are weirder. 020
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 28/08/2026yes! he shares material from it in the Shambo in the Shenters Facebook group 010
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 28/08/2026In short (1) Know the purpose of the table, (2) break it down into bite-sized explicitly thematic chunks, (3) tie it to features of your setting that help make things more concrete, and (4) give yourself real word inspirations to so you can search on wikipedia/pinterest/reddit when you get stuck.7/7 0151
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Finally, I also was pulling from the real world, ie both the 1960's Bay Area and global medieval wear (since the people in this setting are from all parts of the earth). this let me trull wikipedia and reddit to find different medieval clothes and accessories. 6/7 190
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I also found a broader sense of the setting was crucial. For example, the foodstuffs were partly lifted from the books. Since my version of Jorune is based on the bay area of the 1960's, the written materials are a mix of political pamphlets, DIY books, writings of spiritual guru's, etc. 5/7 160
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Instead of staring at 36 spots on a table, it's MUCH easier to think "What 6 improvised weapons would lumberjacks have?" We show the character of the region by thinking about a bite-sized chunk. OK, now I move on to "What 6 articles of clothing might you find in that region?" Not so hard. 4/7 180
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Breaking the tables down into more bite-sized chunks helped. So I did the same spread for each table: 11-16 sentimental objects, 21-26 foodstuffs, 31-36 articles of clothing, 41-46 written materials, 51-56 improvised weapons or armor, 61-66 limilates (drugs) or crystals. 3/7 180
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I found that having a purpose in mind helps. At char gen you roll to see what honest toil the people in your village do. It also lists the geographical region the village is located in and a free skill. For the trinkets, I wanted a mix of character seeds and worldbuilding that draws on that. 2/7 180
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I've been writing a LOT of tables for my Jorune game. For example, I'm doing 2d6 starting equipment by class + d66 trinket table corresponding to the characters home region. I normally find writing tables all but impossible. But I have some advice from some tricks I started using to help. 1/7 5293
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 24/08/2026OK I've never read green lantern. What are the runs I should read? The weirder and more cosmic the better, but obviously great storytelling or art, whatever is good 372
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 22/08/2026There's a whole discord dedicated to this kind of guy specifically! 030
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 21/08/2026I'm like 90% done with a complete, new rule system for my upcoming Jorune campaign. All that's left is starting equipment and downtime! It's about 40k words! Going to share it with my Patreon on Monday, and then release it bit by bit on my blog. 1271
Ben L @benlaurence.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Watched Heretic. The first 45 minutes were tremendous. After that, not so much. The funny thing is the movie itself suggests an alternate plot that would have been much better, but in the end the movie is too normie to go there. As written, it's kind of a nice critique of New Atheism though. 1160
