League has added another team this year, which is great, since so many people ended up waitlisted last season. There’s a new woman who joined the league specifically because her kid said girls don’t play hockey. This is the energy I’m here for.

In 2006, I had to travel about 2 hours away from my western NC hometown to find any Hurricanes championship gear. Sports Authority in Greensboro had one little rack of T-shirts. One of the sports bars in my home county was promoting “STANLY CUP GAMES” on their electronic sign out front.

I remember when Carolina went to the cup final in 2002. I thought to myself “this is a big deal, maybe I should drive out to Raleigh and see a game.“ Tickets were like $120 apiece, which I thought was way too expensive back then. So I didn’t go. 🤷‍♀️
