missed National Coming Out Day. but came across this screenshot of the mass email i sent 12 years ago!
mass email from me when i transitioned. the body of the email reads-
"about 15 years ago i sent out a mass email stating that i had used the Troy Aikman quarterback rating system to decide that the right choice was to switch email providers from Aol to Comcast. using the same system i'm pleased to announce that the Troy Aikman quarterback ratings system has given me the clarity to go ahead and switch genders.
i'm available to anyone by phone that would like to crunch the numbers. thanks eveyrbody and sorry for the mass email! and thanks Troy Aikman!"

I don't think so. The last two lines add specificity and texture to the joke. Personally, I laughed at line four, and then again (and a little more) at line six because the specificity made it funnier.

You can actually start at any Godzilla movie. Even the Monsterverse movies are mostly self-contained. Despite its badness, Godzilla (1998) made a metric ton of Godzilla fans. Godzilla: Final Wars, a love letter to previous Godzilla films, could be your first and it would be fine actually.

There's a new Godzilla movie coming out and if you've never seen a Godzilla movie before I'm going to recommend two to choose from: If you want an excellent, and super serious movie: Godzilla Minus One. If you want a slightly silly, but still great, classic Godzilla movie: Mothra vs. Godzilla.
Theatric poster for Godzilla Minus One. It highlights the movie's Oscar win for best visual effects.Poster for Mothra vs. Godzilla

Interesting. I view this as two jokes with one built on the other rather than as one overlong joke.

The Loony Left was very codified in mainstream politics most of my life. We treat the left very differently now. I'm glad that I have been able to adjust my own politics leftward over the years. I firmly believe in evidence based policies, and I know what the evidence shows.

Having lived through the Reagan years and the Contract with America, a political ad like this astonishes me. So many people in my life told me these policies were doa. But to see a viable candidate (polling ahead of her opponent) in an ad like this, wasn't sure I'd live to see it.

I don't think all art is subjective, but I also don't think no art is subjective. And that difference, that line, is fascinating to me. It’s a bland, warmed over, opinion, but one that to often gets forgotten in “this is dumb shit” vs. “no it's not” wars.

I like a lot of stuff that people say is fucking dumb and I wonder if I really dumb shit, or if other people are just wrong. I’m not going down the route that nothing is dumb and everything subjective. It feels important to point dumb shit when you see it. But also maybe to know when to shut up.

Today on a podcast I heard someone describe a woman throwing her husband's towels out of the window and onto a tree outside as “passive aggressive.” No, that’s just regular aggressive. There is nothing passive about what she did.

If the internet is to be believed, this showed up in comic book shops on this day in 1995. Still can't believe I was fortunate enough to team these two up, not once—but twice. (Once for Marvel with Mark Bagley, once for DC with Graham Nolan.) Talk about childhood dreams coming true.

This is what I have too. I also have my voice set to the default so they just get that and the lack of confirmation that the phone number belongs to someone seems to have reduced my spam.

I'm a trans woman, my life is inherently political whether I want it to be or not, so I try to keep my social media presence as a fairly bummer-free zone. But if you live in Arizona, please vote in these midterms, 'cause I'm kinda terrified of what's on the ballot right now.

The album Bat out of Hell is only 46 minutes, which is hilarious when you consider that the title track is almost 10 minutes long.

Thinking about In The Air Tonight and how, in retrospect, it makes perfect sense for a drummer to write a song where you spend three quarters of the run time waiting for the drums to kick in. And then you get the best drumming that was ever to be drummed.

To me, suspension of disbelief means that the audience is, at first, on your side. They want to read or watch the thing. I've seen it used strangely where someone might say "X breaks my suspicion of disbelief like it's my problem and not theirs."

I’m not precious about Godzilla 1998, so when I want to try out some new toy like new headphones, it's a good movie to turn on and just go directly to a part that I think has interesting sound. There are better Godzilla movies, but few are the kind of movie you can dip in out of.

Gypped in The Penthouse (very 1955 title, alas) is one of the Stooges' best. Larry and Shemp commiserate over a fatale who swindled them both, narrating their respective flashbacks as case studies. Unusually naturalistic acting by Larry & Shemp. Like they're just a couple of brothers hanging out.

Look, the surgeon wrote-up what he did and what he saw. Read that.

Surgeon, calling me last night: I didn't see X during the operation and, in fact, saw a contraindication of X. Other doctor, talking to Kim today: You have X. Huh? Shouldn't they be talking to each other? Like, shouldn't we have some agreement on the diagnosis before we go mouthing off?

Belle @belleofball.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I don't think Kaiser is particularly good at care coordination. Every doctor seems to have their own thing and none of them talk to each other. We should not have two different doctors, one of them the surgeon, differing on treatment recommendations. With neither one talking to the other.

I'm surprised that AI is still being used as a marketing term given all the backlash to AI data centers and such. Is anyone really thinking that an AI [SOMETHING] is better than a non-AI [SOMETHING]? I guess there are chads who do, but are they a big segment of your market?
010
Belle @belleofball.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
I know AI is just a marketing term because I saw the phrase "AI powered tools" for some photo editing and I'm pretty sure they're are just regular tools. Maybe they're an iterative improvement over the last version, but I doubt AI really matters.

I like the implication of these two posts accidentally being next to each other that Kieron Gillen isn't usually in one of those moods on a Friday.
Kieron Gillen: If I was alive in 1914, I'd have simply declared myself an atheist to avoid ending up in a foxhole.
Jamie McKelvie: Oh you're in one of these moods are you

Off topic, but I like Cushing's portrayal of Frankenstein. The series wasn't about the monster, but Frankenstein going from town to town doing the same schtick and not learning a goddamned thing.
