Library book of the day! I know nothing about it except it’s QUEER and there’s dragons and maybe an assassin? Don’t know - don’t care. I will continue to read all the queer library books I can get my hands on. I’ll let you know how this one is. Consort of Fire by Kit Rocha #booksky

Has anyone read House of Frank by Kay Sinclair? My brother passed away last year and I’m wondering if it will be healing or traumatic. #booksky

For absolutely no reason at all here’s a great indie book set in a post-apocalyptic world with a trans MC. @lmjuniper.bsky.social is also a gem you should be following. How We End by LM Juniper #booksky #indiebooksy

One of my favorite creators has a Bindery. Today we should all think about raising up BIPOC voices. This is a great way to do that. #booksky

I’m mourning the loss of #booktok if I’m being honest. Some of my absolute best friends came from that space and I’ll miss the community more than I can say. I will still be championing our indie authors everywhere I can. #booksky #indiebooks

So, fun fact. “Power Born” was in my first ever indie book haul. It helped start my whole love for indie authors. You should check it out.

Cee | SFF Editor @ceemtaylor.com · 25/11/2024
Writers! If you're looking for a developmental edit on a SFF manuscript, I now have an extra spot open in February. You can learn more about me and what I edit by checking out the 🔗in bio or visiting cameronmontaguetaylor.com. #writesky #fantasywriters #queerwriters #indieauthor
“My background is in journalism, and editing in that field is all about correction: cutting what isn’t needed, fixing what is needed but doesn’t work. I entered into the developmental editing process thinking that’s what it was going to be like. But what I learned while working with Cee is that a good editor isn’t just trying to point out all your mistakes. A good editor begins with the question, “What are your goals with this book?”, and then works with you to help you achieve those specific goals. When Cee and I first connected, I explained to her that I wanted to use Frostbitten to introduce a world in which I could tell more stories. So when I got her edits back, every suggestion and comment she made was from the perspective of, “You are trying to do this, and I don’t think it’s coming across how YOU want it to.” If a piece of worldbuilding was important to me, even if it wasn’t absolutely crucial to the book, Cee didn’t tell me to cut it. She helped me find a way to weave it in so that it worked for the book. It was not only a process that helped me take huge leaps towards writing the book that I wanted to write, but it’s one that taught me the importance of knowing what your goals are with your writing. Not every story is trying to do the same thing. Some writers want to kick off a twelve-book edit. Some writers want to write the most commercially viable book for the market and sell as many copies as possible. Some writers just want to find an agent. An editor like Cee starts with understanding what you want to achieve, and helping you tell the best story possible that will help you get there. It was a hugely rewarding process, and my book will be light years better for having partnered with Cee.”

It’s that time of year! Time for winter reads! Can I recommend one of my favorite reads of last year? A Hunt So Wild and Cruel by @rebeccafkenney.bsky.social is a spicy, fae, fantasy romance retelling of a Christmas Carol with a miserly young queen as our FMC. SO GOOD. #booksky

I don’t know what’s better in Living Legend by @allieshantewrites.bsky.social - the tension during the sparring scenes or the banter! The audiobook gives it such oomph! #booksky

“Did you really have to make an obnoxious entrance?” Elise asked, the annoyance in her voice obvious. Reese scoffed. “You can just admit you’re impressed and feel inadequate.” I love the banter between these supporting characters in Living Legend by @allieshantewrites.bsky.social ! #booksky
