It's cool if you feel I'm a bit dramatic but a better word might be resentful. Some people are so utterly cruel and pious and torment others at really tough times in their lives when they are seeking refuge in fandom, then leave or post elsewhere without taking responsibility for their actions.

Just got a formal letter from a senior claims advisor at a huge insurance company where patient's name was completely wrong but sounded similar to the correct name. So basically you can tell he used voice to text software which misheard him and he didn't proofread properly. AI will devour us all.

Nadi is the ocean and palm trees. Siem Reap is exhaust, dust when hot, rain when wet & street food. Tasmania is sandstone, eucalyptus, leaf litter and woodsmoke especially in winter. I'm curious how you'd define the smells of other places? Not the stink of any major city but what's underneath that.

Where I live now is also frangipani, tropical plants, rain and when the wind blows right, a bit of a yeasty smell from a brewery one suburb over. Penang's drains are...a lot, not gonna lie. I almost left it off the list because of that. But the street food overpowers it.

Chiang Mai smells like a campfire a few months of the year and the rest of the year it smells like rice, chilli, mangoes, motorbike exhaust and heated asphalt. Melbourne is like wet soil, eucalyptus, bluestone and yes, coffee. Bali is incense from the offerings and frangipani.

Like in Dublin you can actually smell the Guinness factory depending what suburb you're in...sort of like burning toast or bread or some kind of cereal. You can also sometimes smell the river and the trees depending on how much rain there's been.

I mean the local plants, the composition of the soil, the materials the roads are made of, what the buildings are made of, what local energy/fuel sources are used, how people cook, how people heat or cool their homes etc, nearby water sources etc. The smell of a place just can't be replicated.
