Punto.

There are multiple rev versions of n64 games. Multiple revs of a lot of ps2 fighting games. Hell you need specific rev versions to get certain source ports of console games to work.

Love seeing stuff like "remember when games used to come out and they just worked" when A) That has never been the case for PC. B) It's console gamer brain rot C) They absolutely had bugs they used to just update and release them as new Disks, there are like 4 versions of vice city for ps2

A mentality I had to grow out of in my early 20s, but “Debate me bro!” types have tricked the entire internet into thinking it’s “your job” to look at a screen and force yourself to be mad. That’s what Twitter is now. That is not normal. You use to go online to improve your mood by feeding a Neopet

I am going to say again, the popular aesthetic of cyberpunk as it is now, is hauntological, a lost future that looks cooler than the one we got; the practical material concerns of it, however, are something that we are living through to some degree or another, and getting worse.

So when people hold up stuff like TLOU2 as the pinnacle of the medium, I’m aghast. It’s just so outside of what I’ve been used to. It’s so limiting. It’s such a narrow, boring focus. The Marvelfication of all pop culture. Can’t be doing with it.

This went on through the PS2 era - huge games like God of War 2 are hugely stylised, borderline cartoonish. GTA San Andreas is the same. The gameplay was always the joy in it, what you took away from it. Even the “fucking hell look at this” factor takes in what is essentially outstanding cartooning.

I can’t abide when TLOU2 or similarly cinematic games get held up as the apex of what gaming can and should be. I grew up in an era when peak games were Good Games, “realism” was hardly a factor and stylised visuals weren’t just common, but actively necessary.

On the other site I dumped on The Last Of Us a lot, the game, mostly the second one. The thing is, I don’t actually hate it or even strongly dislike it. I like Naughty Dog’s output generally speaking. I liked Crash. I loved Jak. Didn’t mind Uncharted and liked TLOU 1. The issue is as follows:
