Yes, no time-travel shenanigans, Ukkomon never sent Rui, Daisuke and Ken (+ mons) back to 1996. Rui never changed the past either. Ukkomon made those out of Rui's memories stored inside him, and attempted to make Rui come to talk to him again, but still doing EVERYTHING wrong. (gee Ukkomon... CHILL)

Therefore Ukkomon was not even "creating" DigiEggs to make partnerships in-movie. The sketches about BigUkkomon's design has a note saying he was teleporting the DigiEggs from the Digital World. All Ukkomon can do is work with brainwash and illusions apparently.

But Ukkomon, despite being connected to a greater digi-being, is not a "special digimon that grant wishes" at all. I hate how everyone buy that narrative when Ukko's profile in null/Bandai lore states it's a RUMOR. What Ukkomon can truly do is hijack the enemy's mind (showin in-movie too)

Also Ukkomon never was wrong about "the digimon will fight until the end in order to protect their human partner", but the way this stupid sea angel critter (affectionate) worded it was AWFULLY terrible so i cannot blame Rui for snapping, especially when Ukko said Rui *wanted* that.

But Ukkomon says the Chosen Children are appearing now, and his promise to Rui was to make those kids become Rui's friends. NOT that Ukkomon was making more children become partnered with a digimon. This is also misinterpreted in-universe by the 02 kids besides Rui.

Rui does believe it was *his* wish, but we see Adv'99 and get the information it was the Gennai kind & Homeostasis studying humans traits and how they match with certain Digital World concepts (i want to believe the Digimentals came first, Crests later), so it wasn't Ukkomon's doing at all.

So yeah, Rui did NOT change the past. The characters in-universe were also not sure if it was a legit time-travel as well. But the digivices disappearing has nothing to do with Rui not wishing anything when he met Ukkomon again.

y'know, it kinda bothers me how official 02TB subs/dubtitles messed up the very unclear status on the "time-travel" thing. which would not only go against Rui's wishes to not change his past, but also Taguchi's about not messing up the timeline and saying "this is the truth" stated in an interview.

You can dislike either of them, of course, but what pisses me the most is when there's this concept that only the OG staff's works matter -- even if Kizuna & 02TB had SekiP's supervision. If you don't know, she was also part of the OG staff. She's also the patron of the series you love as well.

Motonaga did not even study the series, only wanted to make it "mature" and treated like the series never ever had serious mature content and themes, kept rejecting corrections from two childhood fans in the staff, made everyone not sure wtf he was talking about. do not lump Taguchi w/ him.

There's enough proof the staff researched the lore, the characters' portrayals and even had asked the OG staff for tips and guidance. they respected the lore and decided to break certain rules with 100% awareness of the lore. this is different from "making it mature" BS said by Motonaga ad nauseam.

honestly i do not enjoy reducing him to any and prefer to have them balanced instead, he's more than just Hikari's secret admirer and a ramen boy. but between those, ramen does not make people loathe him by just standing next to anyone else or misread his whole portrayal and relationship dynamics.

So due to Ukkomon's poor choice of words, Rui assumed they were slaves or servants to those human children, that he had just forced the digimon to fight against their will, only to serve and protect children like him. And this wasn't true at all.

So Ukkomon had messed things up, but what he meant was the digimon can and will do everything to protect those dear to them, including fight to death for them. Because they won't sit and just watch their partners suffering and struggling, they will do everything for them.

Even so, Ukkomon wasn't totally wrong about that part of "fighting until their end in order to protect their human partner", but his choice of words was AWFULLY HORRIBLE, so it messed up with Rui's head for almost ten years since their biggest and pettiest fight.

he's well aware of his mistakes, had no proud of them at all. This all goes against Rui's statement that "Ukkomon does not listen to me, he does whatever he wants!" because it shows if Rui had the chance to voice his needs and preferences, Ukkomon would've listened to him indeed.

and, as i said before, Ukkomon definitely had regrets for his actions, as sort of parallel to Rui's "I should've done this" regrets. So, it's possibly Ukko regretted for his own actions and behavior, was scared off by Rui's anger when things just went out of control.

Also, it's kinda funny how peeps can fall into the trap of Rui's POV about Ukkomon (in the flashbacks) and miss the point of how Ukkomon's portrayal in those flashbacks are mostly a hint that Rui did not understood Ukkomon or even knew who Ukkomon truly was. and then at the end of the movie...

and by talking to Ukkomon PROPERLY, he finally understood how the 02 kids felt, how they were right about he should've talked more with Ukkomon and being more open about his feelings and needs. and he definitely gets a chance to start things anew with Ukkomon in the end.

this is kinda noticeable by when Daisuke tells him "we ARE involved now!" and drags him around with them, Rui cooperates and does not argue enough with them. Even if he wanted to be stubborn about his beliefs of "humans and digimon should be kept separated", he does obey the 02 kids and cooperate.

so when Ukkomon had offered him stuff, he probably never rejected it afraid of retaliation and being hit for disagreements. Rui lacked not only emotional cognitive (= "cannot think about how others feel about his actions") but also had issues about confrontation.
