Can I get some commotion for this absolutely brilliant Ex Romana art by @beforeviolets.bsky.social? Cannot recommend enough having crazy talented friends who help celebrate your award noms by bringing your imaginary guys to life. Sargassa and Bloodtide are available wherever you get your books. ☀️

Art by @beforeviolets of the ensemble cast of the Ex Romana series by Sophie Burnham. Two women, two men, and a nonbinary baddie are framed within a shattered eight-point sun. The ocean and folk art surround it.

emerging from my bluesky slumber to say i'm offering 3(!) commission slots* for 20% off if you have characters who are: -POC -visually disabled/have visual differences -visibly trans -fat/plus-sized! *prioritizing commissions with characters that fit multiple of these categories and/or are queer!

(just to note some things I’d love to draw: gothic/horror, people that are also monsters, lesbians, mythical creatures, fairytale-esque art/scenes! but open to almost anything historical/fantasy/horror!) if you’re interested, email me at beforeviolets@gmail.com or use the Google Form in my bio 🤎🌿

*this also does not apply to large commercial pieces such as covers/interior illustrations, but i’m always happy to negotiate prices for things like that! happy to provide sketches or have further discussions to make sure you feel confident in my ability to represent your characters' features!

alright, figured I'd set up shop over here! i'm briar/bri! i'm a queer, nonbinary Jewish illustrator, sensitivity reader, and sometimes book reviewer! I love gothic literature, fairytales/folklore, shakespeare, metaphor-forward stories, and anything with a sentient forest! 🪬⚔️🌿🌙
