I don't understand why we have to fight our own city so hard to have a walkable market and third space that everyone can enjoy like a real urban city?! Pike Place is already fully open to vehicle traffic every day before 10 am and after 5 pm with ample parking nearby! There's no need for this.

I'm trying something new. If we break this losing streak, I'll have to wear this hat until we lose again, so probably Wednesday. But #ebfg let's fucking go! It's a nice day, early match, and I'll have time post-match to work on my many outstanding sewing/mending projects 😁

Last night at dusk I noticed a bumblebee extremely still on one of our Columbine flowers. Turns out our native planting strip garden is attracting all the critters! The bee is actually paralyzed and in the grasp of a Goldenrod Crab Spider. Can't wait to see what else will make it's home here. 🖤
A photo taken at dusk.
In focus is a Goldenrod Crab Spider (bright yellow with red stripes on its abdomen) sits on a red petal of a Western Columbine (delicate red and yellow flower. in it's grasp is what appears to be a a Western Bumblebee (fuzzy, all black with a yellow head).
Above the spider and bee is a spitbug (aka spittle bug) hiding in its bubble camouflage. They are usually harmless to PNW plants.

The Goldenrod Crab Spider can change their colors through a molting process to blend in with their chosen flower habitat. Typically these spiders live in goldenrods but
this one has chosen these Columbines.
The background is out of focus but looks to be other Columbine flowers and stems with dirt.

For my birthday @llarian.net got me a kimchi fridge and is spending today making us all the kimchi. (Like 45lbs of various kimchi). We had to move the wine fridge. I will not be bringing any fresh kimchi to the match tomorrow. I will however be asking the soccer gods for 3 points for my birthday.
A compact fridge sits open, the main compartment is stuffed full of cabbage, radish, salted shrimp, and some perilla. The door is full of soju and some empty brown fermenting containers.

For some reason my brain has hyper-focused on this part and I think it's because lightrail commute time *includes* walking through the garage. When people leave they [hopefully] are adding in that 3-10 min walk. I hope the walkways are wide, too narrow and someone standing blocks the whole thing.
Screenshot from the re-posted Urbanist OP-ED:

But the primary barrier to get people on the light rail isn’t the long walk from the station. A 2018 study demonstrated that commute time is the primary reason people choose to drive instead of ride. In fact, commute time is cited as six times more likely to be the barrier to using transit as compared to walking through the garage.

I keep missing @theorcacard.bsky.social events with Boop! 😩 😭 And now there's a Boop claw machine!?! 😭 So much FOMO. I just need a Boop keyring or plushie or idk huggable squishie. 😔 BTW - Don't tell Sammy about the alt text, it's not his fault he's not boopable.
A screenshot from the email newsletter from Orca Transit.

Title reads: Fun Transit Events All Around the Sound.

*Below that is an image. Image Description: A kid in a navy blue hoodie stands at a white claw machine with the Orca Transit logo that is filled with BOOPS! Other people look on patiently waiting for their turn.
Boop is the little adorable orca mascot for the Orca card. Unlike Sammy the Sounder, Boop won't eat your face and is actually cuddly, and round, and boopable, -- you would def want her as a squishie, a purse, a pillow or keychain. (Sorry Sammy you're just so realistic - you totally are a transient orca that eats seals & whales.)

There is text below the images, it reads:

Spring usually means flowers, showers, and in 2025 it meant exciting transit events
around Puget Sound. Our ORCA team was able to attend two of them, the Downtown Redmond Link Extension opening and Everett Bike Day!

The Trails 2 Transit celebration at the brand-new Downtown Redmond Station was a blast. The ORCA team had a table right in the middle of the party and had a line of excited customers throughout the entire day. The main draw? Our amazing, Boop-filled claw machine. We were thrilled to meet and chat with so many devoted ORCA users and supporters. One of the main points we reminded folks of is the valuable transfer window that using an ORCA card grants a rider, even when switching modes, like from a Metro bus to a Link train.

The second event we attended this month was the big Bike Everett Day on May 16th. We again brought out the popular claw machine, Boop toys, and other customer resources for those that came and visited our booth. We appreciated the chance to get out in the Everett community and remind folks of how well ORCA, transit, and biking go together to get people where they need to go!

And don’t look now, but June (Ride Transit Month & Pride Month) is right around the corner. Stay tuned to our social media channels for some exciting happenings.

This is some impressive shade. One key difference between the lines is that outside of the Seattle city limits, the Lightrail follows freeways and has non-pedestrian friendly stops that focus on feeders or cars. And with slow street level rail it's still faster for many to drive. :(

I spent months advocating for my tiny team to keep our Regence BlueShield insurance at it's previous level & just prevailed only to get this letter in the mail today. Less than 1 month notice to cancel providers. 🤬 These greedy ass mfers. In 2024, Regence spent $5K per member to my $13K premium.
Page 1 of letter from Regence Dated March 3, 2025 Subject: Providence Swedish and PacMed may be out of network on April 1, 2025
Dear [Redacted]

At Regence BlueShield, our priority is ensuring you have access to high-quality, affordable health care. To achieve this, we work closely with health care providers to balance their needs with those of our members. We want to make sure providers are compensated fairly and you can continue to receive excellent care at a price that fits your budget. The leaders of Providence Swedish and PacMed notified us of their intent to leave our network on April 1, 2025, if we cannot reach an agreement on our prices. Our premiums are based on what we expect care to cost. If providers demand more money, our members and customers will pay more. While we are willing to negotiate an increase on our reimbursement rates, not at the level demanded by Providence Swedish and PacMed leaders. If these providers and facilities leave our network on April 1, 2025: • If you currently receive in-network care from Providence Swedish and PacMed providers and facilities, you may continue at the in-network rate through March 31, 2025. • If you receive care from Providence Swedish and PacMed providers and facilities after March 31, 2025, we will process covered services at the out-of-network rate. This means if you continue to see these providers, they could make you pay more. • For those members with no out-of-network benefits, please call Customer Service or search our provider directory at regence.com for providers in your network. Our network includes many other providers that share our commitment to high-quality, cost-effective health care. We have provided a list of facilities and providers in your area at the end of this letter. It is not a complete list, and we encourage you to go to regence.com or the Regence app to find a local in- network provider. If you still need assistance finding a provider, you can always call the number on the back of your…Page two of letter from Regence:

So the pension fund for a Florida police department is suing Target because dropping DEI policies & LGBTQA+ merch kill their stock. This is some wild fuck around & find out. 🍿🍿🍿
Screen grab from the Yahoo finance in the re-posted article.

Text reads:

Target shareholders, led by the City of Riviera Beach Police Pension Fund in Florida, filed a class action lawsuit, claiming Target defrauding them by “artificially inflated” stock prices and failing to warn inventors about how removing DEI and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) policies could cause stock prices to plummet, Forbes reports.

The lawsuit also says that Target concealed the backlash it suffered from the May 2023 Pride Month campaign after the company removed the LGBTQ+ merchandise after confrontations happened in stores.

Target lost $15.7 billion of market value after share prices fell 22% on Nov. 20, 2024.

First ballot drop is in for the special election. Historically Seattle voters pull more "conservative" for the early voters and break more progressive for later voters, so this bodes well for passing Prop 1A. 🤞🤞 election-results-01.kingcounty.gov/results.pdf

(Headline) To pay for Trump's tax cuts, House Republicans could raise student loan bills for millions of borrowers

(Blurb Text) As House Republicans look for ways to slash spending to fund President Donald Trump's tax cuts, they've floated proposals that could raise federal student loan bills for millions of borrowers. GOP lawmakers are expected to use the budget reconciliation process to make major cuts to the federal budget. The savings from the student repayment plan overhaul would be $127.3 billion over 10 years, according to their estimate. But the average student loan borrower could pay nearly $200 a month more if the GOP plans to reshape the repayment program succeed, according to an early estimate by The Institute for College Access & Success.

This guy got there at 3:40PM-ish and he was number 79. We are on speaker number 83. If you are in line to speak up for more housing and bigger urban centers, stay in line! #SeattleHousing #Seattle

I see that! Weird. Nothing is uploading, it's just a black square. (message me tonight and I can help!) In the meantime, here's a photo from the show you did in Mexico last year! 😍
Deadwood Revival, consisting of musicians Kim and Jason, perform on a stage in the middle of a pool with lush tropical vegetation surround them in Bucerías, Mexico.
Kim, on the viewer's left, has chest-length auburn hair and is wearing a white tanktop and maroon flowy pants (or skirt). She is playing a guitar (or bass).
Jason, on the viewer's right, is wearing a baseball cap, dark rimmed amber tinted glasses, a white button-down short sleeved shirt and black shorts. He is playing a banjo and a harmonica rest on a stand on his chest.

Hey Seattle! Don't forget to vote YES on Prop 1A. This should have been on the November ballot. Vote Yes 1A to remind the Seattle City Council to stop fucking with our wishes, and keep their hands out of the cookie jar. Sincerely, A District 2 Resident

I love r/MapPorn for many reasons but this is today's reason. A visual of the state subreddits and their status as to whether twitter links are banned. Also, wtf? Washington and California haven't even brought it up for discussion?
A screen shot of the MapPorn subreddit post titled "Which state subreddits have banned X/Twitter.com links in response to Musk's Nazi salute?" posted 2 hours ago.
Below the title an image with a white background shows a map of the United States and asks the question: Which state subreddits have banned X/Twitter.com links in response to Musk's Nazi salute?

The options and colors are:
[RED] Banned
[Orange] Already Banned
[Yellow] Proposed and under discussion
[Green] Proposed and rejected by mods
[Black] Not proposed

Of note Texas and Colorado are listed as "already banned", Washington and California are among the states listed as "Not Proposed", and North Dakota and Maine are listed as "Proposed but rejected by mods"
