I blame overuse of the "quantize" function a lot of DAWs have. Sequencer-driven bass lines don't do it on their own, but when everything else is quantized into chronological perfection to match the beat it all just ends up sounding mechanical.

This. Hardware companies can just sell to datacenters and make a profit. Game publishers on the other hand seem to be targeting specs assuming a huge userbase on bleeding edge hardware, and those numbers aren't what they once were. Lower sysreqs=cheaper dev, more potential buyers.

It is the worst possible failure mode of organized religion: fanatical devotion towards whatever their leaders preach, no matter what their leaders preach, even if it's contradictory to what their leaders have already preached. This is the reason we have so many "Christian" hate groups.

By teaching their followers that theological education is untrustworthy and critical thought about theology is to be avoided, these "Christian" sects end up with a population primed to believe whatever their preachers tell them, no matter how at odds it may be with the actual contents of the bible.

Which is to say that studying theology doesn't mean just recieving orthodox doctrine from on high, but studying the hows and whys of it. It's a powerful tool for *resisting* religious leaders looking to manipulate a populace through their faith.

I mean, I'm an atheist. But the thing with theology as a field of study is that it's sort of a cross between studying philosophy, literature, and history. It covers things like historical contexts for certain ideas, looking at meanings of original texts, interrogating doctrine, etc.

Doesn't help that there's a bunch of modern sects that are *actively suspicious* of people who have studied theology thanks to a doctrine that religious ideas come from divine inspiration rather than education (which TOTALLY isn't used to manipulate people who aren't thinking critically, nope nope).

At least, that's where the notion *came from*. Like so much of modern American theology, most of the people spouting nonsense like that have received the idea from previous generations without ever following the chain of thought and critically wondered if it's still valid (or if it ever was).

That is, the Catholic Church was alleged to have deviated sufficiently from what early Protestants thought was important as to no longer have the authority to lead Christ's followers. It was essentially "You can't excommunicate me, I excommunicate YOU!"

That is definitely some old-school sectarianism. It's a thread that goes back to the Protestant Reformation, where the theological grounds justifying the reformation were something akin to a Chinese emperor losing the Heavenly Mandate.

If you're a streamer on windows 11 check your audio input settings for your mic as there's now an AI powered "Audio enhancement" section that defaults to on which can interfere with your microphone audio if you're already processing your audio via OBS filters or other software

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

I'm just saying: if you described this room to your D&D party, you could throw out whatever other encounters you had planned for the session. They're spending all night investigating Area 27.) Pink Brick Square Floor Hole in Wall with Panel.

A basement room with blue walls. In the middle of the wall is a large brick wall painted pink. To one side the brick has a round hole in it filled with brown insulation. In front of the wall is a square area in the carpet that is tan brick. To the left of the pink brick section is a blue panel which sticks out from the wall. The place most likely had a fireplace in it at one time but now there's just enough emptiness that the whole thing looks vaguely ominous.
