I love that May Day is on a Friday so we can appreciate the weekend directly afterwords. And we don’t need to do this again. Yet. #mayday #iwd
A statue commemorating the Haymarket Riots in Chicago on May 4, 1886. The haymarket riots began when workers were rallying for their rights (safe working conditions, fair pay, weekends) after police killed unionists at a demonstration the day before. Police were looming and oppressing as per usual when an unidentified anarchist threw a bomb at the cops. This went badly for everyone. Innocent people were killed. Some were later executed by the state after being falsely convicted …but oddly this helped change public opinion in favor of workers and afterward, and led to May 1 being identified as IWD going forward.

Legitimate, adj: Being exactly as intended or presented : neither spurious nor false. — I don’t think that applies to anything crypto.
A very sad tale of G Love who lost 424,000 of his life savings after downloading a “fraudulent app that appeared to be legitimate” to something crypto. G Love is seen here playing guitar and harmonica and looking downtrodden. A reminder to stop playing with fake money.

I created a little table of day of the week with US rhetoric against Iran and market reaction. It's almost like there's a tradable pattern here, kids. Talks monday - markets hopeful, threats Tuesday, escalation Friday - Sunday daily/futures markets fall.
Table tracking Trump's Iran war rhetoric (escalation vs. de-escalation) and U.S. equity market reaction across 6 weeks (Feb 28–Apr 7, 2026). Rows = days of week. Columns = weeks. Each cell shows conflict direction (✈️↑ escalation / ✈️↓ de-escalation / ✈️→ neutral) and market reaction ($↓ equities down/oil up · $↑ equities up/oil down · $→ mixed/flat).
Key patterns: Friday is the only day with a perfect 6-for-6 escalation record — every Friday produced an escalation signal and a down-market reaction without exception. Saturdays followed the same pattern in weeks 1–5 before going neutral in week 6. Sundays were escalatory in weeks 1–3, shifted to de-escalation in week 4, neutral in week 5, then returned to escalation in week 6 (Trump's "Power Plant Day / Bridge Day" civilian infrastructure threat). Mondays showed the most variability — alternating between escalation and de-escalation signals — and were the only days to produce a positive market reading (week 6, S&P +0.4% as markets began discounting Trump's deadlines as performative). Mid-week (Tue–Thu) was mixed across weeks, with escalation dominant in weeks 2, 4, and 5. Week 1 (war's opening days) was notably calm mid-week before Friday's shock. The overall pattern confirms a recurring weekly cycle: mid-week diplomatic signals stabilize markets briefly, Friday–Saturday rhetoric resets to maximum pressure, Sunday reloads the cycle.

New York Times indicates the stocks saw the biggest loss since the war in Iran started with the S&P 500 following 1.7%. The Bloomberg one says the S&P falls the most since the start of the Iran more while the NASDAQ 100 closes 2.4% lower.

This is a drill down of the settings for data and circled at the top of the screen is a switch entitled quote improve the model for everyone” and in the picture it is turned off. However, before the picture was taken, it was turned on. I’ve talked to a number of people today who all have this feature enabled without having consented to share their personal information.

…never mind.
Screen shot of an AP News story that reads

The U.S. military used a laser Thursday to shoot down a "seemingly threatening" drone flying near the U.S.-Mexico border. It turned out the drone belonged to Customs and Border Protection, lawmakers said.
The case of mistaken identity prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to close additional airspace around Fort Hancock, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southeast of El Paso. The military is required to formally notify the FAA when it takes any counter-drone action inside U.S. airspace.
It was the second time in two weeks that a laser was fired in the area. The last time it was CBP that used the weapon and nothing was hit. That incident

Ive been reflecting on why Reddit is a better pulse-check than insta, TikTok, or twitter. Downvoting. Yes, agitators can still talk. But instead of their signal getting boosted, they are downvoted to noise, which better reflects proportionality of views.
A picture from a moment on the John Oliver show when he was trying to demonstrate the absurdity of “both sides “reporting in this episode in this picture you see the stage flooded with 99 scientists holding up papers. These are the scientists who believe in climate change and that it’s real. What you don’t see on the stage is the one scientist who believes climate change as a hoax. The intended visual was intended to demonstrate the proportionality that is lost in traditional “both sides” reporting where you have one person saying one thing, and one person saying the other. Which gives the appearance that it’s equal split of facts and opinion.

The biggest take away is that if dems can displace “consensus” leadership with aggressive candidates, the 2026 senate map, which is *bleak* for dems, suddenly gets more interesting. See alt text for details. Revisit this in 365 days.
Consensus map that shows MI, NC, GA, ME as tossups and IA, KY, AL as safe. This shows 51/45 GOP with 4 tossups - no path to democratic victory. User (me) created map that shows ME, MI, GA as democrat, TX and MT as weak GOP (Cornyn retiring and Daines is consistently vulnerable). IA, AL, KY, and NC are tossups with retiring GOP leaders and no clear replacements in the wings - Bashir (Ky), Jones (AL), and Stein (NC) prove democrats can be competitive. IA is just weird and always has been. This shows a 48/48 map with 4 tossups, a weak path to democratic victory that requires ME, MI, GA, and 3 of the 4 tossups (AL, KY, NC, IA). Weak path. But not impossible.

When is a hot dog a sandwich? When at the former legendary Chicago encased meats emporium, Hot Doug’s. Here we see a Chicago Dog accompanied by a duck sausage with Sauternes infused Foie Gras foam. Both served with Tab cola. Pictured here c. 2010.
The greatest meal. A can of tab cola (IYKYK) next to two hot dogs in paper cartons. Plus a cheese covered gooey mess of French fries. The closest hot dog is covered in slices of pink foam that is Sauternes infused Foie Gras foam.
