ok so, I did say I would show off something I did so time for a 2AM preview: - this is my personal site (in Astro) - in dev mode, I have a toolbar to login to my Atmosphere account - it gives me info about AtProto records on my pages - and lets me publish my posts to my standard site publications

We really don't need to put artificial barriers between devs&public, devs&creatives. Resist the urge to buy into it! Resist the urge to equate listening and taking criticism with accepting moving goalposts, rhetoric, and half-truths that take empowerment *away* from you. People are not corporations.

Or the idea that devs aren't creative! That Open Source devs look a specific way, that there aren't Open Source devs who do theater, and composing, and art, and poetry, and fanfiction writing, and sewing, and making, and and and! These are all things I know devs who do! Why would they not?

i can see this post and i use witchsky.app as my main source of using bsky. from what people say about the main site, i think more people should consider using alternatives. maybe being hidden from the wider part of things could help limit abuse but who knows :( im sorry this is happening

Digital art colored character sheet for my OC, Teresa. She's a petite woman of short stature, with several old school tattoos, and dark clothes. She has teal-black straight hair that hang loosely down to her waist. Her irises are fiery orange, and her skin is tan. Signs of age such as crowsfeet show on her face.

There's 4 separate drawings.
1) She sits at a table and squeezes her eyes shut in exasperation while she rubs her forehead. Translated from Polish, she says: "Oh boy..."
2) She crosses her arms and she mumbles: "Stupid child..."
3) She angrily points a finger, and shouts: "Use condoms!! Kids take time, energy and money, and they grow up and be stupid!"
4) She stands next to Cain, her nephew. The drawing shows them both at their full height. Teresa at 119 cm (3'10") and Cain at 192 cm (6'3"). There's clear similarities between their eye shapes, eyelashes, texture of their hair, and the way their eyebrows arch intensely. Cain has, however, much darker skin, dark brown hair, and yellow eyes. He's fit, and wears all black clothes.
Teresa stares up at him, and she reminds him: "You gotta quit smoking, Cain."
Even while saying this, she herself holds a cigarette in her hand.
Cain says: "You too."
Teresa says: "I'm 57. I can die when I want to."

"Teresa, born 17th September 1952. Cain's aunt. She became his guardian when he was a kid and his parents died."

"Cain, born 1st January 1981. Son of Teresa's brother. Cain had a rough childhood and still deals with ("deals with" is striked out for correction) ignores the aftermath."

Helping non-devs get the words and spaces and advocacy avenues to participate in creating for the open web and have input in protocol development has been an honor. And that's where I come from: I've seen the damage this does to non-devs folks and how it impacts us all. We don't have to keep at it.

I know people think that continuing the "I'm just a stupid dev who doesn't understand how the world works 🤪" is welcoming and inclusive, but it's not. What empowers people is all of us respecting each other and the unique facets we all bring. Empowering should not be done by insulting yourself.

With open software, however, there's an expectation that if a project is made that benefits of others then people are entitled to have a say in it or that being denied a feature is "not listening to their public". But... You aren't public! You're someone who's benefiting from someone's generosity.
