I need to start a thread called 'things i cannot say in the school group chat' or else explode. Here is #1: DID YOU KNOW THE GIRL GUIDES WERE USED BY IMPERIAL AUTHORITIES AS PART OF ITS COLONIAL PROJECT TO IMPOSE BRITISH MORAL AND CIVIC VALUES ON INDIGENIOUS CHILDREN.

Just a reminder as the new academic year kicks off - the UK government has deliberately, ruthlessly, throttled the recruitment of international students, solely to pander to racists, and the resultant 25%+ fall in numbers can and will only accelerate some universities into bankruptcy.

Nathan Cofnas tweet: I was just suspended by Ghent University. They will almost certainly fire me.

The decision was made by rector Petra De Sutter, a former leader of the Green Party.

Not all feminist scholarship is theory driven! But, as long as you promise not to claim you're making innovative contributions to well-rehearsed topics, I support this approach (as if my support mattered in the slightest to anyone)

What's gender go to do with it? Within UK SHAPE disciplines, women are 51% of academic staff (39% of professors). In STEM, that's 45% of all academics (27% of professors). What are the impacts of disproportionate SHAPE redundancies on those stats? Is anyone attending to gender equality? 1/2

A quarter of young children now live in the private rented sector. In fact, children are now more likely than adults to do so. 🏠 More in our latest Housing Outlook➡️ buff.ly/SNjZ77G
Figure showing the growing number of children living in the private rented sector.

While fewer than one-in-ten under-11s lived in the PRS in 2000-01, by 2024-25 it was one-in-four. The number of children living in the private rented sector has tripled – from 1.1. million children in 2000-01 to 3.2 million in 2024-25. As a result, children are now more likely than adults to live in the tenure (23 per cent compared to 22 per cent).

And pay for it! I do think that there is a significant minority of men for whom just word vomiting at women is the ideal way to pass the time, but that the majority are constrained by some level of decorum.

It's 2040. Peter Mandelson - who fled to the UAE following accusations of misconduct in a public office - has returned to the UK to take up the roles of 'Leader of the House of Lords' and 'Women's Minister'. He starts a podcast that wins an award for jovial back slapping.

It's almost as if, even if you embed yourself like a tick into the carotid artery of capitalism, you're still going to find race & gender being used to fuck you over. Hilariously, of course, this kind of money-shuffling has SCREAMED about individual talent being its ONLY criterion for decades...

Yes, it’s based on Ruiz’s work. I found it a useful way to explain a particular kind of obfuscatory politics, though I do now wonder whether Foucaults work on governance (which I also used) might have been sufficient 🤷‍♀️

Hi @theguardian.com - unclear why this article is written as if domestic abuse and domestic homicide is a gender neutral phenomenon. The Women’s Aid article clearly identifies those guilty of child murder as fathers. Questionable journalism. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Relative child poverty has remained stubbornly high over the last twenty years and has risen over the past decade. Without action, levels will soon break records. Scrapping the two-child limit in full would be the most targeted and cost-effective way of reducing child poverty.
chart showing Relative child poverty has
remained stubbornly high over the last twenty years and has risen over the past decade,
from 27 per cent in 2013-14 to 31 per cent in 2023-24. As things stand, child poverty is on
track to reach record highs within this Parliament
