Semi-invented recipes brag: Heard roughly about this, then set about just doing by trial-and-success (no failure): Cheddar broc egg-white muffins. Very high protein each. Made 'em last night, had to try one as the photo shows.

Photos of the boxes outside and in, plus one of me from last month while I was in Ste. Genevieve, MO as an illustration of my general smol-ness. OTOH, I spent a lot of time this past year working out though... Lost weight, got a little swole. In better shape now than 20 yrs ago.

Yes. Often more than we know.
There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this: Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction.
Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.
And then remember this: The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.
And know this: the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire’s authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege.
Remember this. Try.

Unless they're doing a screen test and tell you to go ahead and try on a hairpiece to see how it looks on camera.
Patrick Steward during an early pre-Star Trek: TNG screen test sporting light, thin blonde hair. You can tell precisely how he feels about it.

It's not a good feeling.

NO, this is a legit photo, not AI or any of that nonsense. Google it already if you have to "Picard with hair"—it's right there.

My favorite car remains the 1995 Miata 'M-edition' I owned about 20 years ago, but had to sell because I was moving out of the country for a long while. It was a total blast to drive on mountain roads.

World is too frickin' nuts lately...I'm gonna go for a long walk, again. Meantime here's a photo of a combination sun-dog and fire cloud that I took two days ago. Other than cropping, it's exactly as was taken at the time, no filters. Gotta find sustenance wherever we can.

Stunse locked the door behind him, sorrowful and frowning. He held up a capped, empty syringe. “I gave her something to sleep,” he explained, as he returned it to his pocket. “Nora assures me it’s safe now and again, just not too often. Sometimes it’s the only rest she gets, otherwise she sings all the time until her voice gives out and she can’t sing anymore. Says it helps keep the deem-hans out of her head.”

“Demons.” I shook uncontrollably, my eyes growing moist. “I’m pretty sure she means demons. To her, that’s what I am—the embodiment of pure evil.”

“We should go. The guard on duty will be back soon.”“We need to talk.” My voice quavered but remained firm. “Back upstairs. Now.”

Just got back from a week-long trip to visit family, and it was amazing, but I'm glad also to be back home. Alas, this rambunctious fellow, Ranger (chocolate lab, 18mo, my brother's dog), accidentally pranged my right knee pretty hard a couple nights ago. He's both sorry and sad I had to go.

My 'signature' hat, which for some reason keeps generating compliments, even though I bought it on a lark from a touristy shop in Half Moon Bay, CA about 25 years ago. Seriously, it's not fancy or expensive or anything. Just a plain felt hat.
Me and Mattie the Wonder Horse, and this is frequently my PFP. Still have the hat, although I lost the blue cloth at some point. It was a remanant of a Burning Man trip, so not part of it originally.

Passage from 'Impossible', vol 4 of my recent series, regarding what laws can and can't do. Namely enforce themselves.
Displayed text:
Harrington stopped about ten yards away, his men arrayed behind and beside him, the captain nearest. “You asked to parlay,” he said, his voice surprisingly mellow and even. “Let’s hear it.”

“My offer is a simple one,” I said. “Release everyone, allow us to board the train and to continue on to Sacrament. Once we’re there, Lady Boland and I will speak to the Board on your behalf and explain this was all a terrible misunderstanding. We’ll tell them you wouldn’t have knowingly made the mistake of interfering with the free travel of a Lady of the realm and Executive Committee member, her family, or her guests, if not for the fact the Wessex gave you an order you didn’t know was illegal.”

“Huh,” he grunted. “Y’know, Lady Boland made the same offer half an hour ago, and I’ll give you the same answer I gave her: No. Funny thing about laws, you see. They only mean a tinker’s damn if someone bothers to enforce them. And out here—” Harrington waved, gesturing at everything. “Away from Sacrament, the law is generally whatever the strong say it is. I assume you’re familiar with our reputation.”

Reminds me of MLK Jr's Letter from a Birmingham Jail, and a particular quote regarding 'moderates'.
Rev. Martin Luther King Jr's famously quoted passage in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail in which he pilories white moderates for being more devoted to order than justice.

This passage in particular resonated:
Alt text: "By illuminating the journeys of those who dance gracefully with solitude, we reveal a profound truth: being alone isn't the absence of connection, but rather a powerful connection with oneself. This isn't a state to be pitied, but a realm to be explored with wonder and reverence—a conscious choice that holds treasures for those brave enough to unlock its mysteries."

Yes, although it's not a TV or movie prop or whatever. I went a different direction, in that this definitely has cultural significance. It's an obsidian Clovis spear point I found completely at random while out on a solo hike. it's about 2"x2" (or 5x5cm).

Interesting day. Slept late, but had the bonus of waking feeling fully rested. Thought lots of deep, introspective thoughts. Had a few personal revelations. Meanwhile, another photo from my collection... Yes, that is a very large rattlesnake I saw during a hike.
Western diamondback rattlesnake, curled upon itself among some limestone rocks in the Sandia mountains.

Yes, that is the curled-up, ready-to-strike, "I'll f*ck you up if you come any closer, lady" position.
