I can’t imagine this not being The Beat Mod’n’Rocker zine album of the year… art damage post post punk heavy psych pop. Jadey Gladeyes is a legit genius, Stefan and Liz are damn close to genius, and Beth, I don’t know her, but I dig her back catalogue. stabbiesetc.bandcamp.com/album/out-at...

12 years late, and I only got hip to this band via Jay Hinman’s incredible Dynamite Hemorrhage issue 2 (2014). His zine is the 21st century Forced Exposure. Anyway Auckland postpunkers off their lithium scrip Civil Union. Bummer tunes rule. civilunion.bandcamp.com/album/civil-...

So NATO members are going to 5% of their $ going on military spending. As a socialist I'm pleased actual Communist States must be booming as that was the point of NATO right? Opposition to the commie threat? Maybe food, clothes, housing should be their focus.

An amazing “metal for people who dobt like metal” release, drawibg on shoegaze, slowcore , ambient and drone. Lots of dynamics, distant lyrics that seem trapped in an existential crisis, or dude just got dumped? Great stuff. open.spotify.com/album/4wQZhZ...

Hell yeah… ex-JPSE (JeanPaul Sartre Experience… ha ha what a band name!) Dave Mulcahy. Album Tiger is amazing dark guitar pop. Other JPSE players did great stuff too. Dave Yetton’s Stereo Bus is great power pop, Jim Laing had a fun solo lp before he died and Gary Sullivan is a drum god for Dimmer

The Brother missed his chance to be a pop star, ‘The Girl’ (track 1) should have been a 7” single, getting every art school heart a swooning. I’ve heard a bunch of groups who have drawn on the Cocteau Twins, making etheral dream pop; Purple Pilgrims have added a David Lynch/Twin Peaks spooky edge to the sound. I feel like I’m going to awaken to some kind of hippy ritual murder, but kinda sensual and fun open.spotify.com/album/5q0hxQ...

Surface of the Earth playing live 14th June Ponsonby Auckland. I reviewed the reissued album in the Beat Mod'n'Rocker but that's physical media and I drone on for way more words than Bluesky allows... I used to have a myspace? Umm... substack maybe? Anyway, Surface of the Earth... free noise.

Derek might just kill that goddamn junkie Terry if he doesn’t come through with the $20, but he’s got time to school record store guy Kurt on the difference between ‘tripping’ and ‘flipping’, the merits of guitarists Trower, Gilmore, Page and Blackmore, and so much more. youtu.be/gH5_vZimKrE?...

The penultimate Xpressway release (X/Way 22 cassette), Sandra Bell’s ‘Dreams of Falling’ is a pretty aggressive rocking debut album (In 1986 she released an EP ‘Black Birds’) Peter Jefferies engineers and is behind the kit, providing some driving rhythms sandrabell.bandcamp.com/album/dreams...
