Even if you figure out where the narrative is headed early, and the plot beats well in advance, the seam of existential dread and tragedy running through everything lands *hard* and unsettling concepts will probably set up camp in your head.

If you want to be reductive it’s a first person narrative game in the ‘walking sim’ mould, with several stealth sections. But! If you really don’t want to deal with creepy stealth gameplay you can turn that aspect off in the options; the game will still be superb

If you’ve not read it already, I can strongly recommend reading the same author’s Piranesi. It’s short, focused, mysterious and unfolds like a fascinating puzzlebox of a story. No connection (at least not direct) to Strange & Norrell

I listened to the audiobook and fwiw enjoyed it, though I might well have bounced off of I’d been reading it. The pacing is very odd; it’s *very* slow for almost its entire length then suddenly accelerates into a sprint right near the end

It took me a long while to actually play OutRun, via the 3DS port - and by that time I’d played countless other games inspired by it. I hadn’t expected to be wowed by it, but wowed I was. Impeccable vibes and gamefeel all round
