The perfect way to switch off from work: the secret to a daily de-stress routine

The march of technology, the rise of hybrid and remote working, and an increasing culture of presenteeism (working longer than contractually required, or when sick) have blurred the boundaries between work and leisure. Research by Business in the Community (BITC), a UK-based responsible business network, shows that 55% of employees feel pressed to respond to calls or check emails outside work, while high workloads drive two in five to work overtime. Disavowed Anger and Positive Emotions with Paul Wachtel
In this episode, renowned psychologist Paul Wachtel, PhD, returns to explore disavowed anger and disavowed positive emotions in psychotherapy. Discover how anger differs from simple repression, its roots in childhood and preverbal experiences, its positive functions (like self-protection, boundaries, and drive), and the vicious cycles of over-niceness that can lead to frustration, psychosomatic symptoms, or explosive outbursts. Dr. Wachtel also contrasts collaborative, integrative approaches with more adversarial models, emphasizing how therapists can help patients reclaim disallowed emotions for a fuller, healthier sense of self. “Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is admit that you need a hand.” Asking for help is not weakness. Your needs matter. You are not too much. 🧡 #kindness #learning #mistakes #AskForHelp Picture by @joyfulsmolthings
Bright illustration of a sunrise with a small figure standing with arms raised on rolling hills. Text on the hills reads: “It’s safe to ask for help,” “I can make mistakes,” “My needs are important,” “It’s okay to not have all the answers,” “I am not too much.” Picture by @joyfulsmolthings.
