Also from me, just went live: A piece about how the current state of fighting games has made the cost of competing far more expensive -- and how that keeps a lot of potential talent away from the limelight www.gamespot.com/articles/fig...

Fighting Games Have An Accessibility Problem, But Not Because Of The Games Themselves

While fighting games are incredibly popular, attending a big tournament like Evo is a big financial hurdle for many.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story: 18f.org

California debunks one of the main anti-renewables talking points From late winter to early summer last year, renewables met 100% of California’s electricity demand for up to ten hours on 98 days. buff.ly/3WNti8n #ShareGoodNewsToo

California just debunked a big myth about renewable energy

Are renewables reliable? A new study says California ran on renewables alone for a record number of days last year.

Read your blog post about 3d printing, I'm in the same boat. I bought a Bambu A1 and I've been so happy. In a month I've used it more than my resin printer. Not having to deal with cleanup is so huge and the quality (especially with the .2mm nozzle) is excellent. I recommended it to Randy too.

My dental hygienist remarked to my wife that I didn't talk a lot when I go in for cleanings which is completely true. I still think what opportunity do I have to make conversation with this lady I see twice a year when most of the time I spend with her I have her hands in my mouth.

The experience and ease of use for filament 3D printers is so much better than resin printers that it makes them so much more useful to me regardless of differences in print quality. Not having to worry about resin cleanup is so huge.

Oh and forgot to also mention mechanicalgrape who originally created the stats mod in the tech post when I was name dropping.

There's a ton of work behind the scenes with ham jam streaming, tidalwave and spectre actually managing the data / stream overlays, as well as the commentators and fighters who participated in the event. This was the most complicated event we did and while there were hiccups, it was a success.

Obviously, none of this comes together without the actual ideas/theme/organization PM side of things which @hawtsoup.bsky.social takes the lead on. And nothing would look/sound as good without all the art production done by @imageomega.bsky.social .

If you have a little bit of html/css/js skills we've open sourced the JS that connects our overlays to google sheets with instructions at: github.com/bcyde/SheetS... . We're still looking at open sourcing the mod we use, but right now it's so tightly coupled to some other stuff it's not ready.

From the tech side the overlays are data driven primarily from google sheets. We wanted something we could use to administer the overlays for free and customizable. For match stat gathering we have a mod that utilizes REFramework that can gather stats based on viewing the match/replay.

Google sheets + firebase + SF6 stats mod overlay

These types of events/streams really mean a lot to us because we're all just a bunch of old dudes that enjoy fighting games. None of us do this as a job and really just want to make the community better. Read on if you're interested in seeing how this came together.

Awesome event check the archives if you're interested: www.twitch.tv/videos/23278... . We raised $6,3880.00 for the Raiden Science Foundation, but just the event is over, that doesn't mean you can't still contribute: www.raidenscience.org .

Tune in for a good cause and for good games. I help out with some of the production tools for the Fightrise stuff, it's a good community that loves the games and doesn't take itself too seriously.

It's funny, I was about to start posting a few hobby dev things as well. I really wanted to bring back my website, but wanted to just host it myself since I have to pay for the unlimited bandwidth cap from Cox, but they block the ports so I'd have to host on a non-standard port :( .

How is the android port of Balatro? I haven't played the game at all even on PC, but everyone says it's great.

You know what'd be super cool? If Bluesky could fill the void twitter left by working out a deal with the console platforms for easy sharing of clips and screenshots.

A couple Apple TV shows that don't seem to get as much praise as the usual ones, but I've been enjoying with my wife: 1) Shrinking 2) Sonny

Insect Glaive and Heavy Bowgun, but it looks like there's so much cool stuff to try. In MH:World I swapped between charge blade and heavy bowgun.

I didn't know you play monster hunter, I'll have to get some games with you when it's out. What weapons did you rock?

Free upgrade from cable to fiber. All it really changed was my upload, but hey I got fiber finally. Just wish I still didn't have stupid data caps.

Ok, is this where I'm supposed to be instead of threads? Can we just have a place that isn't trash where I can follow cool people. I hadn't logged in here for a while, but I guess this is where everyone is jumping to now?

000

bcyde @bcyde.bsky.social · 23/02/2024

I hate that half of the people I know in real life are split between bluesky and threads, and the people I don't know, but like to follow are still on twitter.
