The BC NDP are promising a tax increase on the highest-income earners and to introduce a new bracket on incomes over $1M, asking BC’s wealthy to “pitch in a bit more.” The BC Conservatives say this plan would drive doctors out of the province at a time when they are most needed. Our analysis:

In Confronting the Resurgent Right, scholars and activists take Canada’s 2022 “Freedom Convoy” as a recent manifestation of deep-rooted extremism. Providing intersectional commentary on the resurgence of the right, they demonstrate how its ideology permeates and shapes the structures of our society.

BC post-secondary education in crisis:
How we got here and how we get out

September 17 at noon | Zoom webinar

After a more than 60% reduction in international study permits in the province, and amid decades of chronic provincial and federal underfunding (and the neoliberal marketization of the sector), BC’s public post-secondary education is facing the worst funding crisis in its history. So let’s talk solutions.

Ultimately, the federal government's 2024 decision to cap international student permits was a blunt instrument applied to a problem that required precision.

And international students were made to bear the visible cost of a system that had long been set up to fail.

What if we treated access to housing as a way to improve health care outcomes? Join us on September 22 to hear from people doing exactly that. RSVP via bcpolicy.ca/events
Poster reads:
What does access to housing have to do with health care?

Social determinants of health (SDOH) are the non-medical factors that influence health outcomes. For example: access to housing, income, living conditions free from discrimination, etc.

Not-for-profit, team-based primary care models are uniquely positioned to help address SDOHs. In a province with both a relentless housing crisis and an overstretched health care system, it is worth having the conversation around how to foster this approach.

So please join us on Sept. 22 via Zoom to talk challenges, opportunities and solutions with people working on the frontlines.

RSVP at: bcpolicy.ca/events

Poster includes an illustration of a house and a health care symbol with arrows reinforcing each other.
