According to Wikipedia, the Eurasian magpie belongs to the Holarctic radiation of "monochrome" magpies. So my #birdoftheday is a #monochrome magpie. It looks disheveled because it got into an altercation with the resident murder of carrion crows. #corvids Today's #birdoftheday alt theme is #finches. Surely that includes the golden kind, seen feasting on evening primrose seeds here. "Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Touchdown, birds at the moment of landing whether on water, land or branches."
Technically, this is not touchdown but final approach, but I think it meets the spirit of the theme. Today's #BirdOfTheDay Alt Theme is #Gulls, any Gull will do.
This gull flew by me, AF-C did its thing brilliantly, and I noticed only later upon cropping the image that I had shot the bird's head at the perfect angle to catch daylight through its nostrils. #photographygoals #birds #Nikon @alan678.bsky.social has named #Swans as the #BirdOfTheDay Alt Theme. Swans have an iconic silhouette that can drag photographers into clichés. This one turned away from me to leave the water, optically compressing its own shape into a more modest and vulnerable version of itself. Arcen, NL My #birdoftheday in the theme of #Texture is these two young swans. I love the ripples in the water in the zone where yin meets yang.
