BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 11/09/2026The part that's interesting to me is the signage. Specifically, the use of the trans symbol. No signs ever say the word "trans", but the symbol appears on the all gender washrooms. 140
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 02/09/2026Without saying your age, what is your favourite movie that came out when you were 20 years old? There are a lot of really interesting films that came out that year, for me. But if I had to choose, it'd be this one: 060
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 22/08/2026Since we're talking about Canadian culture, can I talk about a thing that really annoys me? Apple TV offers a boxed set of the Canadian TV adventure series, _Relic Hunter_ (which seems like a knock-off of _Tomb Raider_). It's CDN $200. 120
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 29/03/2026Here's another gripe in the same vein: this is a photo of the "movies" in my "purchased movies" list on my Apple TV: Note my _Lord of the Rings_ films. Weirdly, the movie "posters" are the French-language version of the posters. Why? Who knows!?! Are they French versions? No. 100
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 29/03/2026It was finally at a price point that I was up for owning a copy. So I bought it. And re-watched it. And discovered that it's missing one episode: episode three of season 3. 100
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 16/11/2025Me, I probably would'a gone for this favourite. Post your favourite Star Trek character. Wrong answers only. 190
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 15/09/2025James Baldwin is amazing, but awkwardly that wonderful statement wasn't made by Baldwin, but rather by a user on Twitter who used the handle "@SonOfBaldwin." 200
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 17/08/2025I was looking around for a 3D model of the TNG Engineering Kit, and couldn't find one. So I threw this together in Blender, fairly quickly. It's not a terribly complicated mesh, but there are a bunch of things I never seem to get to completion and this actually feels finished. 0151
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 06/07/2025Bidi bidi bidi. If you see this, quote with a robot that isn't from "Star Wars," "Star Trek," "Dr. Who," or "Transformers." 000
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 03/07/2025On the topic of commissions, here's a Zatanna I commissioned from Sarah Leuver, aka ComickerGirl, a few years back. (Huh. I just looked it up and it was in 2019). As I say, I like Zatanna. 010
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 03/07/2025I got a coupl'a art commissions from Campbell at Fan Expo Canada just a bit before his _Naomi_ and _Far Sector_ work. This Artemis image hangs on my wall just beside my computer. 110
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 19/04/2025Duolingo kind of sucks these days. This was a question from yesterday’s batch. The “correct” answer is not an accurate translation. 130
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 24/02/2025I received an email response from the CBC after I filled in their ombudsman form on the weekend. I find it pretty underwhelming. Mostly because it basically says, "It was our job to 'just ask questions' and the fact that you found it obnoxious is a 'you' problem." 120
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 17/02/2025A couple of other books caught my eye, but both are pre-orders. I've seen a number of Sara Tepes videos on YouTube, and I think she has a distinctive style. I don't think I'm a "beginner" with Clip Studio any more, but I can always learn more techniques. So I might check that out as well. 000
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 22/01/2025I suppose a slightly more revealing way of looking at things is via a dependency table. It's been a while since I was actively using SonarQube, but I recall that it could give you this kind of picture. 100
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 22/01/2025Let's look at one little example in all of this. There's a dependency between a MailChimp package and an "exceptions" package. Turns out, that represents 1 single import statement. An import of an exception class used in exactly one place. To me, that's an anti-pattern. 110
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 22/01/2025That's pretty overwhelming, sadly. I could feed the same data through PlantUML, but I don't get anything better. Also, PlantUML seems to have cropped the edge of the picture off. 100
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 22/01/2025I have some tools that I've played with in the past. I pulled a package analyzer out of mothballs and ran that on my codebase. It gave me this picture. Names anonymized, of course. 100
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 02/01/2025The Book of Face offered me this little-known fact about Golden Retrievers and American tourists. 030
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 07/12/2024So now I have this. I spend a weird amount of time on some odd details in the character creator. 010
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 07/12/2024Anyway, that image helped me sketch out a rough version of the ship in #Blender. It's a pretty unsophisticated model, but I only care getting enough of the shape details to make a silhouette outline. 100
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 07/12/2024On the topic of the Par'Tok class, it's one of the spaceframes that I still had an old simple silhouette of in the app. 110
BC Holmes @bcholmes.org · 07/12/2024But if I'm honest, I just don't love the FASA civilian ships. They're pretty uninspiring. I have a copy of this book, for example. It includes two ships -- the Chameleon-class and the Mission-class (the Mission is "originally Starfleet, but later used by civilians"). They're both ugly. 100
