Blanc rarely played Elmer. He was usually voiced by Arthur Q. Bryan, known for playing Doc Gamble on FIBBER MCGEE & MOLLY. Blanc's contract prohibited other people from being credited. They actually changed Elmer's model for a couple of cartoons to a caricature of Bryan, but people didn't like it.
