I just met Lilith and her partner Serberus down at the coffee shop in the alley. They're so happy and seemed to get out of the heat for a minute. They reminded me that it's been a while since I posted a pic of #DogsThatIHaveMet
A little corgi doggo with bright blues eyes and a big ol' tongue hanging out enjoying the coolness of an air conditioned cafe. Behind her is her partner Serberus who is also a happy corgi.

Yo the new photography exhibit down in the basement at the High is pretty fuggin cool. Cooler than I expected. Here's a couple of my favorites from today. ..."He wrote in his notebook, "take advantage of truth to make illusion and illusion to make truth."" 👨‍🍳 — Meatyard

Harold E. Edgerton
American, 1903-1990
Moving Skip Rope, 1952
Gelatin silver print
Gift of the Harold and Esther Edgerton Family Foundation,
1996.69
Using his invention, the strobe flash, Harold Edgerton captured detailed movement on film, advancing study that began with nineteenth-century photographers like Eadweard Muybridge. A scientist and engineer with a nearly sixty-year career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Edgerton revolutionized stop-action photography. Multiple exposures with high-speed film and a repeating electronic flash allowed him to capture several series of split-second events. In this photograph, a woman is frozen in space at different phases while jumping rope, which flies at various angles in its rotations.Untitled (plate 1), 1960
Gelatin silver print
Purchase with funds from Jane and Clay Jackson, 2035.168
In the 19Gos, when Mearyard was making his most important creative breakthroughs, street photography was one of the dominant trends in fine art photography. The practice sought to capture the feeling and spontaneous energy of everyday life in public. By contrast, Meatyard endeavored to create something more narrative and surreal.
He wrote in his notebook, "take advantage of truth to make illusion and illusion to make truth." In this ambiguous image set before a crumbling brick building, his eldest son Michael is suspended midair with his arms outstretched as his younger son Christopher looks on. Meatyard's use of long exposure blurs Michael's figure, making it magically unclear if he is rising or fallingHans-Christian Schink
German, born 1961
2/26/2010, 7:54 am-8:54 am,
S 36°49.622' E 175°47.340' (Cathedral
Cove), 2010
Gelatin silver print
Purchase with the Lucinda Weil Bunnen Fund for the Bunnen Collection, 2014.388
Since 2005, Hans-Christian Schink has carried his large view camera to locations around the world to capture the trail of the sun over a one-hour exposure.
The long exposure causes an in-camera solarization that inverts the sun's light and is rendered black in the print, revealing the sun's normally unnoticed trail across the sky. The photograph's detailed title reveals the exact location, date, and time of day the negative was exposed. Schink's lush, mystical work fuses the aesthetics of nineteenth-century travel photography with a contemporary approach.A random man looking at photographs hanging on a museum wall

one of the (many) problems with telling people who've lost their careers in middle age to just retrain is that you can't live on an entry-level salary anymore. people in their 20s are supposed to have roommates and parent subsidies. you enter a new career in your 40s and you're expected to deal with all the financial obligations of middle age with a salary that doesn't even cover the rent.

Bayport's motorcycle parked on the street with the High Museum building in the background along with bright green trees along the sidewalk. On the building is a giant poster banner promoting the latest exhibit called Data VerseA piece of abstract minimalist art on the wall in the museum. The museum card provides this info for context:

"James Siena
American, born 1957
LEFT TO RIGHT:
Acidic Non-Slice, 2005
Gouache on paper
Aggregator, 2021
Ink and graphite on paper
Celidor, 2019
Graphite on paper

Relying on a combination of mathematical precision and artistic freedom, James Siena's
"visual algorithms" create a psychedelic world of concentric lines and repeated patterns. His works, made using a process-heavy computational method of established rules, are biomorphic illusions that defy identification.
Siena emerged in the radical art scene of New York in the 1980s, a pivotal time for the digital revolution. Although his artistic practice was informed by 1960s Minimalism, specifically Geometric Abstraction and optical illusions of Op Art, his work revitalized these earlier modes of artistic investigation."Another piece of abstract art on the wall. But this one is colorful with circles, orbs, and color gradients.
There is a museum card next to it but it is out of focus and not legible. A black and white abstract minimalist art piece on the museum wall. The museum card provided the following info and context:

Edward Ruscha
American, born 1937
Walk. 1972
Gunpowder on paper

Ed Ruscha first gained widespread recognition in 1960s Los Angeles.
Like many of his peers, his work drew from popular culture, advertising, and consumerism.
Though he adopted the techniques and illustrations of commercial culture, his compositions, in their simplicity and clarity, mirror a Minimalist focus on the essential.
Here, Ruscha uses gunpowder instead of graphite to create a subtle grayscale. He often incorporates typographic elements in his work: the word walk seemingly floats away into the gray plane and resembles skywriting.
