A bit of a rant, but it’s just an observation of what I think Engage’s flaw is. It’s like a dessert. Looks good, tastes good, but isn’t filling. I struggle to find something that can fit for lore discussion.

Compared to Engage where all I can really say about the characters and countries is at the level of describing a generic Super Mario Bros. structure. I think of Fodlan, I can envision the complexity of the factions living in it. I think of Elyos, I realize Lythos was not the name of the continent.

Hear me out. Compare Three Houses. Even without DLC or Three Hopes, the world building is pretty detailed to where you can find someone or something interesting to talk about.

You know I’m surprised I’ve seen so many “They won’t talk about the Zelda movie” at tomorrow’s Zelda Direct. The movie releases in 7 months-ish, I’d be surprised if they didn’t even talk about the cast.

It did not help that the cutscenes were made like Support scenes. It really lessened the weight of any pivotal moments. Though the art was great. Overall I’m ready to return to the main game now that I did all optional extra stuff before beating Chapter 9 of main game.

It’s pretty clear cut that it existed to recruit enemy leaders as allies for the main story. I almost was jamming to the story, but geez it was up and then way down and then up before dropping like a rock again.

Alright, binged the entirety of Fell Xenologue in Engage. I was gonna stop and resume after some sleep, but then I learned I was on the last chapter. My take on this bizarre DLC campaign. It was meh. Gameplay was fantastic, Chapter 5 was the hardest, and the “”story”” was something.

Engage and a Visual Novel work well because to me I can set bursts for Engage and Kinkoi is just read a bit here and there. I think the biggest shame though is Engage may have to be rushed so I can get to Fortune’s Weave in a couple of weeks.

I hope to get back to Atelier soon, but I think I need easy to pick up and pause games at least until my workload decreases around the end of the year. I’d get too invested into Atelier and Trails for the time being.

Looking at my refined game schedule I reworked it to make sure I finish some things in time for the new game influx: -Kinkoi Golden Loveriche -Fire Emblem Engage Trails will wait, mainly because since I played FC and SC the originals, I can take my time on the remakes.

Okay I can’t shut up about it but Engage might have been the best palette cleanser after grinding so many long JRPGs and VNs. The enemy will never be ballin’ enough for the strategy of this-shouldn’t-work-but-it-keeps-succeeding!

Engage’s gameplay loop is basically find an Emblem, go “wow, this is busted”, and repeat that each time you get a new one. I feel like even the bad Emblems are game changers. Each one is an exercise is tactical genius + stupidity.

I finished her route. I’ll be honest, it shows that this route was probably an extra addition afterwards. I don’t know what the story behind it is, but I can tell you that it felt very extra-y if that makes sense. Art was still good though!

I think seeing Ouro’s backstory be so pivotal in having all these characters interact made the route feel lively. Interesting how the ending time skipped to years later compared to Elle’s route but I also feel like it’s a natural conclusion to this route.

Reina Route done! Okay, I’ll say it, a very sweet route. Striking a balance while also pursuing what’s best for your heart as well as your mind. I think it dragged a little bit here and there, but I love the focus on Reina and Ouro’s interaction with the setting.

Bonus, I genuinely thought Ayaka was the “???” Route. I mean, it just felt natural to me. Antagonist that we never get more to her story. It felt right for a now we get to learn about her. I’m banking on a Ria Route existing, so I’d say she gets her moment then. Unless, six routes?! Probably not

I’ll come back to this as I get into the other routes. Currently debating between Reina and the new fourth route… Akane?! I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect her, I thought it would be Ria. Akane seemed secondary much like Kikuchiyo. Could be interesting though!

Heck, it’s pretty prevalent because I just realized a handful of relatively prevalent common route characters just outright dipped 1/3 through up until the final portion.

Knowing that Sylvia just wanted Elle to be herself I think is what sold the concept. I like Elle more as an individual now and Reina + Mina were good comedic add-ons in the route. Only downside was once Ouro and Elle hit relationship status, we lost a good amount of supporting cast.

I’ll use this as a summary thread for Kinkoi: Golden Loveriche spoilers. Anyways, Elle’s route was cute. It’s basic but in a good way. Seeing her go from feeling the need to be a “knight” to being just “Elle” is a good take on still loving someone but being your own person.
